Meghan Markle and Prince Harry should be stripped of their royal titles, according to a congressman, for allegedly interfering in the US election. Twitter have mixed reaction about the issue.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been very outspoken about the presidential election, and not everyone was happy about it. A Republican congressman wrote a letter to British Ambassador Karen Pierce asking her to reach out to the British government and Queen Elizabeth II concerning Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal titles.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry should be stripped of royal titles
Congressman Jason Smith was not happy with Prince Harry and Markle’s statements about the upcoming election in America. In his letter, he expressed his concerns in the royal couple’s “continued interference in the United States presidential election.”
Smith pointed out their statement urging American citizens to register to vote and “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.” He also highlighted how Markle called the 2020 election the “most important election of our lifetime.”
“These actions represent a serious breach of the British Royal Family’s policy of political neutrality and an inappropriate act of domestic interference by one of our closest allies,” Smith wrote in the letter acquired by Daily Mail.
He said that if the British Government will not stop the Sussexes, it is condoning their interference in the 2020 United States Presidential Election. So he asked that the Sussex be stopped from interfering or be stripped of their royal titles.
The Queen must strip the Sussexes of their titles. They can’t remain as royals & spout off about foreign elections in such a brazenly partisan way. https://t.co/6uZ3FTbjHW

Twitter reacts to the lawmaker’s move
Twitter users immediately reacted to the issue. Some agreed with the congressman, but others supported Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
“Good for the congressman! At least one of the republicans is doing the job the republican leadership won’t do!” one wrote.
One said that Prince Harry and Markle are “insignificant” when it comes to election interference. Another agreed with Smith saying that the Sussexes shouldn’t be using their royal privilege publicly.
Meanwhile, another suggested that Prince Harry and Markle should move to an island without internet and cell service, and it would make the world a better place. Another netizen believed that they should have moved to countries supporting their charities, instead. A different user took it further and suggested that they be declared “persona non grata” and be sent back to England.
However, many also believed that Markle has the right because she is an American. The couple can live anywhere they want, and they are free to speak their minds about the election.
Piers Morgan made the same call
Piers Morgan was the first to call out the Queen to strip the Sussexes of their royal title. The journalist also did not like their intervention in the U.S election.
“The Queen must strip the Sussexes of their titles. They can’t remain as royals & spout off about foreign elections in such a brazenly partisan way,” he wrote on Twitter.
