Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s content on Netflix is allegedly not wanted, according to a U.S. columnist who snubbed their ambitions.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped back from their royal duties last year. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to move from the U.K. and settle down in the United States. However, one U.S. columnist brutally snubbed their couple’s ambitions in producing shows on Netflix.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s content allegedly not wanted
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have signed a multi-million deal with Netflix. However, according to Maureen Callahan, a columnist from the United States, “no one wants to watch” anything they produce, Express reported.
“Meghan showed up on ‘America’s Got Talent’ for no discernible reason, and Harry and Meghan just announced that $100-million-dollar deal with Netflix,” she wrote.
“Making inspirational family programming,’ they said in a statement, ‘is important to us.’ Uh-huh. They droned on about ‘the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection,” she added.
The Sussexes added that they aimed to work with diverse communities that shines a light on people and causes around the world. They want to focus on creating content that not only informs but also gives hopes to the people. However, Callahan said those are “stuff no one wants to watch.”
Why Prince Harry signed on Netflix and Spotify
Prince Harry claimed during his and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey that Prince Charles cut him off financially after Megxit. The Duke of Sussex shared that they had no plans to sign with Netflix and Spotify, however, he needed money to secure his family.
“From my perspective all I needed was enough money to be able to pay for security to keep my family safe,” he said.
Prince Harry also shared with Oprah that they managed to survive through the transition due to the money he inherited from Princess Diana which was about $13 million. He said they wouldn’t make it without his mom’s money and he felt that the late Princess of Wales knew what was coming for him.
However, the duke received an intense backlash after the Clarence House released its annual financial report showing that Prince Charles gave him a substantial amount to support his family during the transition. Some called Prince Harry a liar for claiming that Prince Charles cut him off after learning that he received a substantial amount from his father to help them with the transition.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s spokesperson said it is “inaccurate to suggest that there’s a contradiction.” The spokesperson explained that Prince Harry was referring to the first quarter of the fiscal reporting period in the U.K. and his statement is aligned with the timeline that Clarence House referenced.
