Meghan Markle was struggling and could hardly afford to buy herself a cheesecake years before she met Prince Harry and starred in “Suits.”
Meghan Markle didn’t have the same luxurious life as her husband, Prince Harry, when she grew up. She admitted that there was a time when she only had $20 on her wallet.
To make the matter worse, she was duped into spending it to land an acting job, Showbiz Cheatsheet reported.
Meghan Markle struggled financially
Meghan Markle had a successful acting career before she married Prince Harry. However, it wasn’t always like that before she landed her role in Suits.
There was a time when her money was only $20. She also agreed to spend it to get an acting job, but the director only lied to her.
“I had $20 in my bank account,” Markle shared in a 2015 interview.
“The director said, ‘You know I think you’re really something, but if you want to get the part you should bring me some cheesecake. And I was like, ‘I’m sorry?’ So I spent my last money on this cheesecake, and I didn’t get the part.”
Duchess behind the working actress diary
Before Meghan Markle catapulted to fame, a mystery writer was hiding behind the diary The Working Actress.
The woman detailed her struggles as an auditioning actress. Her experiences were not easy that there were times when she had to sleep in her car. However, in the summer of 2012, she announced that she just landed her biggest break in a new TV series.
As Markle’s career progressed, the mystery writer stopped writing and eventually deleted the blog. Many believed that the Duchess of Sussex was the woman behind the blog because they saw the writer’s hardship in Markle.
“Yeah, it was definitely Meghan who wrote it,” said Lance Carter when asked about the blog. “I think she deleted it a while ago. Maybe when she [joined the TV legal drama] ‘Suits’?”
Another said Markle deleted it because she no longer wanted to be considered as a “struggling actress.”
Meghan’s finances
Meghan Markle stated in court documents for her legal battle against Daily Mail that she financially supported her dad when she started earning.
She also helped her parents with her education by undertaking the work-study program. Markle worked on the campus to lower down her tuition fee.
The duchess also revealed that she had always maintained a full-time job when she was still an auditioning actress.
“The Claimant always maintained full-time jobs while auditioning, both as a professional calligrapher as well as working in a restaurant. The Claimant’s father gave occasional financial support to the Claimant, just as she provided reciprocal financial support to him once she began earning,” the court document obtained by Mirror read.
Markle has gone far when it comes to her finances. The Duchess of Sussex is now worth $5 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
