Melania Trump’s responses to the coronavirus pandemic did not sit well with one journalist.
The Daily Beast editor, Molly Jong-Fast described the FLOTUS’s responses to the outbreak as even more botched than the president’s responses. She also accused the first lady of going on a coronavirus denial tour last month.
Melania Trump comparisons
In her article, Jong-Fast compared Melania’s behavior to the actions of the other first ladies that came before her.
Laura Bush was the first lady of the country when the 9/11 terrorist attacks took place.
At that time, Bush organized a series of children’s concerts to raise money for the survivors at the Kennedy Center.
During the Great Depression, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt served low-cost meals. She also campaigned for workers’ rights and helped build new communities.
According to Jong-Fast, the current FLOTUS has not done enough amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The journalist added that Donald Trump’s wife could be raising money for personal protective equipment (PPE) for front liners but she isn’t.
Tennis court update criticized
Last month, Melania gave an update about the construction of the tennis court at the White House while the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States increased.
As such, her critics slammed the FLOTUS’s desire to focus on less important matters.
This, according to Jong-Fast is one of the reasons why she thinks that the first lady is in denial about the pandemic.
And just last week, Melania shared a photo of herself wearing a face mask while reminding Americans to always use one especially when they are going out.
“As the CDC continues to study the spread of the COVID-19, they recommend that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures can be difficult to maintain. Remember this does not replace the importance of social distancing. It is recommended to keep us all safe,” she captioned her photo on Instagram.
Donald Trump’s wife receives praises
The first lady’s supporters couldn’t help but gush over her photo on social media. Most of them said that Melania looks good even with a face mask on.
Others also praised her for everything that she has done amid the outbreak. They also called her the best first lady in the country.
As of late, the FLOTUS has also shared tips on how Americans can make better use of their time while they are self-isolating at home.
On the official page for her Be Best initiative, Melania encouraged the public to play word search puzzles, White House trivia, and more.
