Mi 10 Ultra becomes first to feature Qualcomm Adreno GPU Control Panel

The said panel in Mi 10 Ultra allows users to modify parameters such as anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, and frame rate akin to desktop GPUs.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra had undoubtedly introduced a series of firsts in the mobile industry when it launched recently. There’s the phone’s support for 120W fast wired charging, 50W wireless charging, alongside a camera setup that defies the game.

Days after its unveiling, however, it appears that the phone isn’t done with its impactful arrival.

Another first

According to Qualcomm, the Mi 10 Ultra is the first smartphone to support the Adreno GPU Control Panel. The accompanying, granular GPU control in the device allows users to tweak parameters such as anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, frame rate, and texture filtering, which is akin to desktop GPUs.

Meanwhile, the Adreno 650 GPU that is featured inside the Mi 10 Ultra supports updateable GPU drivers. As it is, the phone is essentially a gaming smartphone without all the bells and whistles found in devices such as the ASUS ROG Phone 3.

A caveat

Unfortunately, since the phone is exclusive to the Chinese market, consumers outside China will miss out on it, which is a bummer. Ultimately, the first available device to bring Qualcomm Adreno GPU Control Panel isn’t now a matter of which brand but when.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra specifications

Powering the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset, with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The latter is non-expandable. The phone is also listed with a 4,500mAh battery capacity, whose charging prowess already made headlines when it was announced.

The phone features a massive 6.67-inch OLED screen, with a resolution of 1,080 cx 2,340 pixels and a high 120Hz refresh rate. Its display also features 800 nits of typical brightness and is compliant with HDR10+.

The main star of the show

On its rear is easily the most attractive collection of features the phone has to boast without even trying. It features a quadruple-camera setup, front-lined by a 48MP wide camera, with 48MP periscope telephoto, 12MP telephoto, and 20MP ultrawide lenses. The device also has a 20MP selfie snapper inside its screen cutout.

Other key features of the device include an improved in-display fingerprint reader, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB Type-C. The phone will ship with the latest MIUI 12, based on Android 10.

The Mi 10 Ultra retails in Obsidian Black and Mercury Silver color variants. There is a Transparent Edition as well.
