The Mi 10 Ultra commemorates Xiaomi’s tenth year in the smartphone business. The brand debuted in 2011 when it released the Xiaomi Mi 1.
Xiaomi has announced the Mi 10 Ultra, its newest offering in the flagship competition. It is based on the Mi 10 Pro, but goes beyond the threshold in terms of its camera and charging features.
Mi 10 Ultra: Curved OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, improved in-display fingerprint scanner
Xiaomi’s commemorative smartphone features a curved 6.67-inch OLED screen, with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. The screen also features a high 120Hz refresh rate and 800 nits of typical brightness. Additionally, there is Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
A single cutout placed on the upper left section can also be seen, which houses a selfie snapper. A beefed-up, in-display fingerprint scanner is also in the mix.
Snapdragon 65 chip with up 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM
Powering the Mi 10 Ultra is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset. The device is then accompanied with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM tiers and 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage options. The latter is non-expandable, however.
The smartphone also works on a 4,500mAh battery, with support for 120W fast wired and 50W fast wireless charging. These charging offerings are a first in the industry. Meanwhile, the phone also 10W reverse wireless charging.
Xiaomi goes camera wild
It is in the camera department in which the Mi 10 Ultra truly annihilates the competition. Its no-frills quadruple-rear camera setup, for instance, features a 48MP wide primary lens, coupled with a 48MP periscope telephoto lens, capable of 5x optical zoom, and 120x hybrid zoom. It also has OIS.
Its auxiliary sensors are 12MP telephoto and 20MP ultrawide sensors. There is also a 20MP front-facing shooter inside the phone’s display punch-hole.
The Mi 10 Ultra runs on the latest MIUI 12, based on Android 10.
Other key features of the phone include Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, stereo speakers, and USB Type-C.
Pricing and availability
Initially launched in the Chinese market, Mi 10 Ultra starts at CNY 5,299 (for its base 8GB/128GB trim, while the 8GB/256GB edition retails for CNY 5,599. The other versions, 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB, retail for CNY 5,999 and CNY 6,999, respectively.
The phone is scheduled to go on sale on August 16 in China. It retails in two color variants – Obsidian Black and Mercury Silver. A Transparent Edition is also confirmed.
Xiaomi is yet to reveal its plans to release the Mi 10 Ultra in other markets. The company is expected to reveal these details online soon.
