After Yondu died in the 2017 Guardians of the Galaxy, Michael Rooker talks about returning as Yondu Udonta in Disney+ prequel series.
The blue-skinned space pirate played by Michael Rooker might be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a spinoff; Bring it on, baby. It will be a prequel series on Disney+ that will focus on Yondu’s character.
Yondu’s appearance in the film
Yondu appeared on the first and second season of the Guardians of the Galaxy. In 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, he is a kidnapper-turned-adoptive father of the Earth-born Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt).
However, his character made a dramatic end in the 2017 sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, after saving Quill’s life. After the intense fight with his adopted son’s birth father, Ego (played by Kurt Russell).
And now Rooker says, “of course,” he would reprise Yondu. Marvel Studios has now expanded the MCU on the small screen with TV series for new and existing characters.

The interest of Michael Rooker to reprise the role
Rooker quipped when interviewed by Mama’s Geeky ahead of on-demand release Love and Monsters that he will sign onto anything because he is out of work right now. He continued saying, “So bring it on, baby, bring it on. I’ll sign onto anything. I love the character. I truly enjoyed playing Yondu.”
The actor also shared that the role was beautifully written under writer-director James Gunn. “And of course, of course, I would return,” Rooker said.
Gunn will not include Yondu in Vol. 3
Meanwhile, for the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn has repeatedly rejected suggestions to resurrect Yondu. He said that the character would return only in a prequel or flashback before his death in Vol. 2.
Gunn wrote in his Twitter account in response to a fan asking him to bring back Yondu. He said, “Unless we’re talking about some prequel or flashback, I believe this would nullify Yondu’s sacrifice.”
