Miley Cyrus confirmed her split from Cody Simpson but stressed that they remain good friends after their breakup.
Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson have called it quits a few weeks ago, but the news just broke a few days ago. The Malibu singer has finally broken her silence about their separation.
Miley Cyrus spoke about Cody split
Miley Cyrus confirmed that she and Cody Simpson had already called it quits. She decided to speak up because she didn’t want the media to control the narrative the way it reporter her split from her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.
“A year ago, almost to this exact date, the media tried to tell my story for me, and control my narrative, and I’m just not accepting that. So today, it came out that me and my boyfriend have broken up,” Cyrus said in an Instagram Live as quoted by Daily Mail.
“It was confirmed by a ‘reliable source’ even though no one is reliable in a relationship except the individuals who are participating in it. But right now, two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age.”
Miley and Cody will remain good friends
The Midnight Sky songstress also stressed that the people shouldn’t be surprised to see them together again despite their split. Miley Cyrus reminded everyone that before they dated, they have been friends for years.
“We are just deciding who we wanna be in our lives, what we wanna do, and so, don’t make it some drama story if next week we’re hanging out, getting pizza,” she added.
“We’ve been friends for 10 years and we’re going to continue to be friends, so just don’t make it something that it is not.”
Exes’ romance was unexpected
Before Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson’s split, the two were still very sweet with each other on social media. The Aussie singer paid tribute to the Wrecking Ball singer by sharing a photo of them.
A source told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month that their romance was “whirlwind of change” for Cyrus. However, at the time, the source was confident that their relationship would work.
The tipster added that Cyrus came out on top. Also, Simpson brought a lot of fun and served as a good friend for the “LOL” star.
“Their relationship was unexpected and became meaningful very quickly, and she couldn’t be happier. They are both very passionate about their music, and it’s something that has bonded them,” the source told ET.
