Xbox Game Studios is about to launch the new title for the Minecraft franchise next Tuesday with Minecraft Dungeons. Here’s a breakdown of everything we know about the May 26 release.
Minecraft Dungeon is a dungeon crawler game developed by Mojang and published by Xbox Game Studios. This new title was first introduced in 2019 and went through a few delays.
Nevertheless, it is finally about to arrive across all platforms—Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Furthermore, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will reportedly receive the game as part of its membership.
Accordingly, it is important to note that Minecraft Dungeons is a standalone game that is set within the Minecraft universe.
Minecraft Dungeons price and DLC
There will be two editions for the game—Standard Edition and Hero Edition. The former retails for US$19.99[AU$30.60], while the latter priced at $29.99.
With the Hero Edition, it comes with a few perks, such as getting the first two upcoming DLC packs for free, and exclusive in-game items—Hero Cape, a chicken pet, and two game skins.
For Xbox Game Pass members, only the Standard Edition will be given as part of its subscription. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will also receive the Standard Edition but for two platforms—Xbox console and PC. Also, Ultimate holders will be entitled up to 10% off on the game’s related DLC.

For the game size, it’ll require 3.2GB of space for Nintendo Switch, while on Xbox One and PC platforms, it’ll only need be 2.54 GB of space.
Multiplayer and cross-platform play
Minecraft Dungeons has a multiplayer mode. In fact, it supports both “local couch co-op and online co-op” for up to four players. There’s no online matchmaking, however, so friends will need to coordinate to play online together.
For cross-platform play, it will be available at the onset of the game’s launch, but developers did say that they will work on bringing the cross-platform multiplayer in, and it’ll be through a free update in the future.
Storyline and gameplay
As previously mentioned, Minecraft Dungeons is a standalone game of the Minecraft franchise. So, the gameplay is quite different, as it will involve more of weapons, armors, and fighting missions, instead of building things in the Minecraft universe.
Basically, CinemaBlend describes the gameplay as similar to that of the concept of the Diablo series.
There’s the taking down of enemies, looking for loot, and as the game progress, so will the gears and the players’ fighting abilities.
The story is centered on defeating the vengeful Arch Illager who was consumed by the evil that embodies the Orb of Dominance. Players will function as the ultimate heroes to save all illager-kind.
