MMORPG Guild Wars 2 is coming to Steam soon, with an expansion ahead. The new content will bring players to a mysterious island of adventure named Cantha.
Eight years after it came out, Guild Wars 2 is finally coming to Valve’s storefront. The game will include all of its previous expansions, up to the Icebrood Saga for free. Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire will come as purchasable expansions.
GW2 will have shared world for players
GW2 is among the latter of the traditional MMORPGs in the early 2010s. The game is expansive and easy to play, with a lot of daily events and quests. It’s hard to feel bored when playing it, considering its activities and the many things players can do.
The world of Guild Wars is massive, even by World of Warcraft standards. What sets the game apart, however, is the accessibility of its gameplay.
For people who don’t have a lot of friends, Guild Wars has a ton of content for solo players. While it benefits players to team up, solo gamers can still access a good chunk of the world. For a generally free title, Guild Wars offers hundreds of gameplay hours.
Now, the game is moving to Steam, but with a few caveats. For starters, ArenaNet won’t allow GW2 accounts to convert to Steam and vice versa. Players with prior progress would have to start over.
Even then, players would share the same world, which means more people can enjoy it. Newcomers will find a flourishing Tyria, instead of an empty one.
GW2 expansion End of Dragons coming next year
Guild Wars 2 has among the least toxic fanbases out there. Many players enjoy the game for its rich storytelling and community. The move to Steam should energize the world that’s almost a decade old.
“Guild Wars 2 has endured for the better part of a decade because of its innovative gameplay, rich storytelling, and passionate fanbase,” noted Chauncey Gammage in a press release. Gammage is the COO for NCSOFT West.
“As the game’s incredible fantasy world prepares to grow once again with the End of Dragons expansion, we are excited to bring this universally acclaimed gaming experience to Steam users around the globe.”
ArenaNet will also have its third expansion next year called End of Dragons. In the expansion, players will find themselves on the island of Cantha. The island kept its isolation for two centuries, only to break its silence now.
Guild Wars 2 will come to Steam in November. Players with the Path of Fire expansion can activate a diving skill for their Skimmer mounts. The dive skill is the first submersible mount in the entire title.
