The new ‘Minecraft’ Caves and Cliffs update got its announcement today. The update will have axolotls, archaeology, and more coming next summer.
Mojang recently announced the 1.16 Nether Update, one of the most extensive overhauls they did. Now, the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update for 1.17 will add many things to do. The Overworld will look better than ever next summer.
Caves, archaeology, and new blocks are coming
Cave exploration in Minecraft is challenging and treacherous. It’s not for the faint of heart, especially if the caves are expansive and infinitely snaking. Mojang is about to make it more fun with its recently announced update.
For starters, Mojang will improve the game’s cave generation mechanics. This simple change is a part of the community’s request for years, and it’s coming soon. Much of the bland tunnels will change into large caverns and even cave lakes.
Mojang even teased a potential cave waterfall, which should be glorious. Players can also enjoy a new archaeology system that will let players dig artifacts in ruins. The game will even add a brush item that will help dig out the artifact without damaging it.
Like any update, Minecraft will also add new blocks to the game. Stalagmite and stalactite blocks will come to make caves more realistic. Sculk-type blocks like the Sculk Block, Sculk Sensor, and Sculk Growth are also coming.
A new Copper ore will also come into the game, adding unique building blocks and materials to create.
Axolotls, goats, and new biomes are also on the way
The Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update is extensive and will likely remake the entire Overworld. New mobs are also coming to the game, together with other biomes.
Goats will come as mountain animals that attack and push other mobs off cliffs. They will also likely be a fresh source of meat, leather, and even milk. The Glow squid from Minecraft Earth will come and should illuminate much of the oceans.
Axolotls, small Mexican salamanders, are coming to the game too as water pets. Much like Wolves, they are likely recruitable as pets. One of the exciting mechanics they will have, however, is their ability to attack underwater mobs.
Axolotls will fight off drowned, guardians, elder guardians, and other fish. This addition makes underwater adventures more viable, especially for sea temple raids. The world generation will also add lush caves, mountains, deep dark, and dripstone caves.
Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update does not have a set release date yet. Mojang puts it for a Summer 2021 release, which means somewhere between June to August.
