Motorola Edge US prices revealed and it is expensive

Motorola Edge US prices revealed and it is expensive

Motorola has officially announced the U.S. price of the upcoming Motorola Edge. The release date remains a mystery, however.

Motorola shocked the flagship market when it released the Motorola Edge Plus several months ago. This time, the company is ready to take on the mid-range market with the Motorola Edge.

There were rumors back then on the price point of the regular Motorola Edge. It turns out that it was true. The official announcement revealed that the upcoming device will retail for US$699 [AU$1,010].

Are the smartphone details worth the $699 price tag?

Specs and features

The Motorola Edge is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G with two memory and storage configurations. The base model starts with 4GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. The higher-end model goes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage as well. Both variants have a microSD expansion slot.

Based on the processor, this device will be among the first mid-range devices with 5G connectivity. This makes it easier for people to access the network connection without spending for a flagship device.

This smartphone has a 6.7-inch 2340 x 1080 full HD+ OLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Luckily, the Edge has a 90Hz refresh rate for those high-refresh-rate games.

The build quality is great with the usual glass sandwich design with an aluminum frame.

In terms of camera, the Edge has a quad-camera setup with a 64-megapixel main shooter. It is accompanied by an 8-megapixel telephoto camera, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, and a depth sensor.

The camera has not been tested yet. But, the Motorola Edge Plus has produced great images. The regular Motorola Edge might have the same image quality.

Users are expecting great battery life with its 4500mAH battery that supports 18W fast charging.

Motorola Edge release date

Despite having the price announced, Motorola opted to keep mum regarding the device’s release date.

However, it is expected to arrive anytime soon. The Motorola Edge and the Edge Plus were both revealed last April. The launch announced that the devices will be available by May.

The situation was true for the Edge Plus. But, the company decided to sit out the regular Edge for some unknown reason.

Motorla Edge coming soon

Where can you get it in the U.S.?

Verizon owns the rights for the Motorola Edge Plus. Thus, interested users may avail of the unit through this carrier. There is no unlocked version yet.

On the other hand, the Motorola Edge will be arriving unlocked. This is the better option for those who are on a different carrier. But, with the compromise of losing some flagship features.

Other countries may receive the Edge variation unlocked or unlocked depending on Motorola. Some companies may prefer a partnership while others do not.

Is it worth the $699 price tag?

The $699 price tag is too much. But for loyal Motorola fans, this is a great option. It has an excellent processor and 5G connectivity.

Motorola has great Android skin as well. It is very close to stock Android with very utilitarian features. The gestures are just an example.

The Motorola software experience is a great reason to consider the device. However, there are reports that Motorola might skimp on software support.

There are two answers if this device is worth getting—get it if 5G is a priority and if an almost stock Android experience is preferred. It is a great all-rounder that can do everything that a user throws at it.

But, do not get it if there is a very limited smartphone budget. Those who have deep pockets will have no problem getting this phone.

However, $699 is too much for mid-range devices. There are cheaper alternatives out there that are better, but with no 5G connectivity.

The Motorola Edge is a great device. But, it is expensive and Motorola should reconsider its pricing. Better yet, have an aggressive marketing strategy as well. Or else, it will be easily overshadowed by rival devices.
