What’s new in ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’?
At just over four hours, it’s a total overhaul over the film that was released in 2017. It means that whatever thought you had about it initially will change once you finish watching it in its entirety.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League rights many wrongs that Joss Whedon’s direction resulted into.
What this new and original cut does is making the viewer more than satisfied. This movie builds up to something, gradually, for an ultimate and epic showdown!
From music to color tone and comprehensive presentation, everything looks fresh. It feels like a brand new Supercar than a repaired four-wheeler.
It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of the filmmaker or not. Zack Snyder’s Justice League provides many positives than negatives. Especially for the comic book fanatics and people who are serious about all the superhero fantasies!
The Good
The Snyder Cut delivers on its hype, which was the concern of many before its eventual arrival for streaming on HBO Max.
Performances are elaborated in terms of the characterization of key actors involved.
Ray Fisher’s Victor Stone/Cyborg in the heart of this movie, without any doubt. His progress from a broken man to a confident, optimistic, and an inspirational hero is commendable to witness.
Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman shines, once again, and this time very profoundly. Instead of forced humor and awkward dialogues from 2017’s JL, he’s true to his nature here.
He won’t be The Batman anymore, in DCEU’s future, but has undoubtedly established a fan base of his own since the 2016 debut in BvS.
The interaction between him and Jared Leto’s Joker is inexplicably intimate, in a ruthless manner. It’s brief yet leaves a mark.
Gal Gadot appears to be Wonder Woman rather than a filler, as she was in the theatrical version.
Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen/Flash shines in his moments. He’s having depth and an intriguing storyline of his own.
Surprisingly, Amber Heard‘s Mera makes a good impression. She also happens to be one of the few survivors in a dystopian world (as shown in Bruce’s Knightmare dream).
In Black Suit and sans the forgettable CGI mustache, Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent/Superman impresses a lot this time. All the frames he’s in are well-done. His presence is enough to strike fear (alongside the deadly heat vision).
The Knightmare vision is unimaginable and provides various probabilities of the darkest fate possible for the heroes; in a world where Darkseid wins!
However, Zack Snyder’s Justice League’s biggest highlight is not the extravagant style or cinematic battle sequences (brilliant, by the way). It’s the apocalyptic nature of an overall direction in which the filmmaker wanted it to push.
Speaking of soundtrack and music, the overall atmosphere is agitated and dark, thanks to Tom Holkenborg. His tracks enhance the intensity where needed the most, albeit in the form of a slow burn.
The Bad
Whenever there’s a Snyder movie out there, elements of flaws and loopholes are inevitable to ignore.
And Zack Snyder’s Justice League has its fair share of downs as well, despite being almost satisfying.
Yes, this is the original, extended, and ultimate cut that existed. But for many viewers, the four-hour runtime might turn out to be a bit exhausting.
Then there are several scenes where things tend to go over-the-top, which is usual for any superhero title.
VERDICT: 4/5 (Impressive)
There may not be a future for an expanded Snyder Verse under Warner Bros. But the cliffhanger on which Zack Snyder’s Justice League ends is promising and proves to be an apocalypse.
That says it all!
