Naya Rivera spent her last moments talking to his father through FaceTime.
Nearly one year since Naya Rivera died, her father spoke up about how her daughter FaceTimed him before she went missing.
Rivera died after a drowning incident at Lake Piru in California. The authorities found her after five days of the widespread search for her body. Meanwhile, they found her young son, Josey, sleeping alone in the boat they rented.
In July 2021, Rivera’s family and friends will celebrate her life after she tragically went missing and died a year ago. Before commemorating her death, her father recalled telling her not to leave her boat during the vacation.
What Rivera told his father
In a new interview with People magazine, George Rivera said that his daughter called him on the day of the accident. According to him, Rivera called to ask him some advice about boating.
“She would always bounce stuff off me,” George told the outlet. “And she wanted to go swimming with Josey out in the middle of the lake.”
The 64-year-old patriarch added that Rivera told him that the boat they rented did not have an anchor. Because of that, he told him it would be dangerous to jump off it for a swim.
Since George is a boater, he knew that his daughter would find it difficult to keep the boat at a safe distance. When Rivera FaceTimed him moments before she got drowned, he kept on warning her not to get out of the boat.
Unfortunately, after three minutes, the call got cut out and left him with a feeling that something bad happened to his daughter.
His feelings turned into reality when the authorities alleged that the Glee actress died due to exhaustion and drowned. She, reportedly, saved her son and gave all her strength to get him back to the boat.
“It’s still pretty much a big blur of pain almost a year later,” he went on. “Things are slowly coming a little more into focus, but I don’t know if I’ll ever and closure from this. I miss her every day.”
According to Rivera’s 4-year-old son, his mother screamed for help before drowning. He also saw her waved her hand in the air before disappearing in the air.
The Ventura County Sheriff then found a body at the lake which had the same characteristics as Rivera. Based on the evidence, they announced that the body belongs to the late actress.
