Netflix announces the production of a live-action series for One Piece. The streaming giant will also drop two sagas of the show.
One Piece is one of the most-recognized anime franchises of all time. It has proved its success after becoming the highest-selling manga with over 462 million copies sold. It even outsold famous mangas like Dragon Ball, Golgo 13, and Naruto.
As a result, One Piece’s fictional franchise generated over $21 billion in revenue. With this at hand, it did not come surprisingly when Netflix decided to help the series conquer live-action.
Netflix announces a One Piece live-action series
Recently, the streaming giant has announced that they will produce a live-action version of One Piece under the eye of creator Eiichiro Oda. Netflix took to Twitter to reveal the surprise and stated,
“BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: A One Piece live action is in the works.”
The series will be written by Steven Maeda together with Matt Owens, who will also act as showrunner and executive producer. The latter is famous for the Agents of SHIELD series. In addition, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, well-known for the Snowpiercer show, will join the two.

One Piece live-action series plot
One Piece follows the story of Monkey D. Luffy who has dreams of finding One Piece, a mythical treasure left behind by the former pirate king Gol D. Roger. After eating a devil fruit, his body became rubber-like and he instantly gained enormous strength and agility.
With this at hand, he recruits the best and weirdest individuals to join him on his quest. Together with his crew, Luffy set sail on an adventure to become the next pirate king.

Showrunner reveals production updates
The live-action series was originally slated to start filming in August. However, due to the ongoing pandemic it will now commence at a later date. Marty Adelstein, one of the showrunner, has provided updates regarding the show’s production.
He stated,
“We have basically all 10 scripts written. We will start casting when we go back.”
Moreover, the showrunner revealed that they have a lot of names on the table to play for the forthcoming series. Adelstein also expressed his big ambitions and further said,
“We have been working very closely with Sensei Oda. So, we’re going to get started, and this one is very big.”
