Outer Banks season 2 has been renewed, and Netflix announced this just three months after the drama premiered.
The streaming giant announced by uploading a new poster for Outer Banks season 2 in its official Twitter account. The image simply showed “OBX2,” and the caption reads: “Outer Banks has been renewed for Season 2!”
The renewal news of the show is not surprising. This is because the show’s executive producer and creator Jonas Pate previously said they are planning to make four or five seasons.
“Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “We’ve sort of long-arced it out pretty far. I’m just hoping that we get a chance to actually tell those stories.”
He also divulged that even before the first season was released, Netflix already asked them to write the scripts for Outer Banks season 2.
The team has been working on it since then, and recently, it was reported it is already complete. Now the cast and crew just need to wait until it is safe to go back to filming.
What the drama is about
The drama series tells the story of best friends John B, JJ, Pope, and Kiara. This group is known in the area as the ‘Pogues,’ and they reside in the Outer Banks, a real place in North Carolina that is popular among beach-lovers.
The Pogues are determined to find out what happened to John B’s father, who went missing. As they investigate, they found a sunken boat, and this also led them to search for $400 million worth of gold too.
It premiered in April and offered 10 episodes. Thus the second season is expected to have this same count too.

EP dropped hints on what to expect in Outer Banks season 2
The first season ended with John B running away from the police after he was framed for murder. He escaped by riding a boat with Sarah, but their vessel capsized in the storm.
The viewers assumed they are dead, but they made it after being rescued. After surviving the ordeal, they headed to the Bahamas to collect the wrecked boat with the gold.
“We’ll definitely have at least a part of season 2 that’ll take place in the Bahamas but it’ll all come back to the Outer Banks because that’s our spiritual home, Pate told EW.
“So we’ll get back to the Outer Banks pretty quickly and I’m sure there’ll definitely be an episode or two that has some Bahamas in it.”
Lastly, Jonas Pate added that before Sarah and John B reunite with their other friends, there will be more dramatic scenarios first. They will explore more possibilities before the friends get together again in Outer Banks season 2.
