A new take in a superpower-centered movie titled Project Power is coming to Netflix with Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt leading the cast.
Netflix just dropped the trailer for Project Power and it is looking like the perfect cure for a hero-action movie, considering all cinemas and production shoots are still at a halt due to the ongoing pandemic.
Based on the trailer, it looks like Jamie Foxx is not letting fans of the superhero genre down.
Project Power storyline
Based on the official description of the Netflix trailer, the story revolves around a mysterious pill that’s been the talks of the streets in New Orleans.
It’s a pill that’ll transform a person into something superhuman—or X-Men like—in a span of five minutes. The catch is, however, the superpowers that the takers will get is random or uncertain. They will have to wait to know. “Some develop bulletproof skin, invisibility, and super strength, others exhibit a deadlier reaction.”
As always, when this type of powerful weapon ends up in the wrong hands, which it will, it causes chaos within the city. This is where Joseph Gordon-Levitt comes it, as he takes the role of a cop.
He teams up with a teenage dealer played by Dominique Fishback and Jamie Foxx who is a former soldier with a personal mission.
There’s always a dead loved one behind every secret vendetta
As Netflix teased, Jamie Foxx is persistent to find the makers or the original distributors of this mysterious pill as it may lead him to some sort of vengeance for his daughter. Or it could be that they still have her alive, as it looks like she’s been used as the source of the pill.
Similar to Chris Hemsworth‘s action-packed Extraction—also released on Netflix, where Chris is clouded by the death of his child and wife, that he could not, in good conscience, leave the kidnapped Ovi Mahajan behind after their extraction operation gets compromised.
Jamie Foxx’s role in Project Power can also be comparable to that of Liam Neeson’s Taken series—anything for the people they loved.
Meanwhile, Cinema Blend notes that the upcoming film is tagged with a “very mature rating.” So viewers are warned about “glimpses of superpowered sex workers, gunplay, and fisticuffs,” making this superhero movie probably not suitable for kids.
Project Power, which is directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, is set for a digital curtain reveal on August 14.
