Netflix renewed its South African original series Blood & Water for season 2. The former stars are also confirmed to reprise their respective roles.
Earlier this year, Netflix pushed into African originals with its order of the South African teen series Blood & Water. The network affirmed that the show is the next step in their further investment in original African content.
Moreover, the platform expressed its excitement to explore more projects across the region. Since, Blood & Water was a major hit after it premiered on Netflix and due to the show’s success and eminence, the season 2 renewal came just one month after the series original release.
The official Twitter account of Netflix South Africa announced the news, stating:
“No more further questions. SEASON 2 IS ON THEE WAY!”
Showrunner and cast confirms the news
The tweet was further accompanied by a video that featured the series and its showrunner, Nosipho Dumisa. She also helmed the series. Dumisa said on a clip:
“Blood & Water’s success is a testament to the hard work put in by the entire team towards expanding the African narrative in a new and exciting direction. It’s a privilege and a blessing to return to our beloved characters, as we delve further into the greater mystery and scandals of their world.”
Dorothy Ghettuba, who leads the cast of Blood & Water, also appeared in the video. The star expressed her excitement and further assured viewers of her continued commitment. Above all, she promised to bring only the best-in-class young adult stories that reflect more on reality and the lives of the young generation.

Blood & Water series overview
Blood & Water is set in the surroundings of Parkhurst College, a prestigious school for elite scholars and academic overachievers. The story follows the 16-year old intelligent and impulsive Puleng Khumalo, a teenager who recently transferred to Parkhurst.
After crossing paths with a private school swimming star, Fikele Bhele at a party, Puleng sets out to prove that Fikele is her long lost sister who had been abducted at birth.
What to expect in season 2
Reportedly, the second season will see Puleng and Fikile deal with the consequences of their explosive confrontation. Moreover, the pair will tackle more mystery and drama which are set to unfold in the next season.
Nosipho Dumisa further teased the forthcoming installment with the words:
“Parkhurst is about to get really messy.”
With this statement, fans can expect more scandals from Parkhurst College students in the forthcoming season.
Who will return
The entire main cast is expected to return for season 2. Fans will be able to witness Ama Qamata (Puleng), Khosi Ngema (Fikile), Thabang Molaba (KB), Dillon Windvogel (Wade), Arno Greef (Chris), Ryle de Morny (Chad), Natasha Tahane (Wendy), Mekaila Mathys (Tahira), Cindy Mahlangu (Zama) and Duane Williams (Mark) back on their screens.
