Netflix has announced the renewal of Raising Dion for season 2. Additionally, the original cast and crew from the first season are set to reprise their roles.
The superhero drama series Raising Dion became a major hit worldwide after it premiered as a Netflix original. It was considered as one of the biggest debut shows for 2019 after it raked 32 million viewers.
Raising Dion is confirmed to return
After taking the show’s eminence into careful consideration, Netflix has decided to renew Raising Dion for a second season. The official Twitter account of Raising Dion confirmed the renewal earlier this year. In fact, it was the first show on Netflix that was renewed in 2020.
The tweet featured Senegalese painter Bou Bou painting a portrait of Season one’s lead characters, Nicole and Dion. It was further captioned with:
“Raising Dion has been officially renewed for a second season! So our friend @boubou_design made a special painting. #RaisingDionS2”

Who will return?
According to Variety, Raising Dion season 2 will include eight one-hour episodes. It will bring back Carol Barbee as its showrunner. Moreover, Michael Jordan, Kenny Goodman, Kim Roth, Dennis Liu, and Charles D King’s Macro will return as the show’s executive producers.
The lead casts of the show managed to survive the events of the series’ season 1. Thus, they will possibly reprise their roles for the forthcoming installment. The returning stars will include Ja’Siah Young (Dion), Alisha Wainwright(Nicole), Sammi Haney (Esperanza), Alie Anne (Suzanne), and Jazmyn Simon (Auntie Kat).
In an interview with San Antonio Express News, Sammi Haney talked about reprising her role in Raising Dion season 2. The actress stated:
“It’s actually really exciting. I can’t wait to do it, and acting is actually very fun.”
Season 2 production status
Alongside the show’s renewal, Netflix’s Strong Black Lead divulged that season 2 production would start at some point in 2020, saying:
“I HAVE SOME NEWS FRIENDS!! #RaisingDion has officially been renewed for a second season, with production set to begin this year!!!”
Nevertheless, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic, the series halted production. It will most likely resume filming on July 8. It appears that it was the date set by Georgia for the shooting to start back up.

What to expect?
The first season of Raising Dion witnessed Dion’s manifestation of his superhuman abilities. This includes telekinesis, invisibility, teleportation, and the ability to heal, among others. However, the young man still has a lot to learn about his powers. With this at hand, Dion will have to face plenty of challenges to become a superhero that he envisioned himself to be.
The forthcoming installment might even introduce Dion’s new enemy, who was teased in the season 1’s cliffhanger finale. Furthermore, the young superhero could set up a new plan to bring his dad home for good.
For the fans, Raising Dion season 1 is available for stream on Netflix.
