Netflix has just added new stars for The Witcher’s upcoming season 2. Moreover, the production of the series is likely to resume soon.
The Witcher was the second highest-grossing series on Netflix, next to fantasy thriller Stranger Things. Considering the positive acclaims it received from fans and critics alike, the show turned out a lot better than expected. Hence, it was not surprising when the platform opened a bigger door for the show through its season 2 renewal.
Henry Cavill returns with old cast for The Witcher season 2
Alongside the series renewal, it was announced that Henry Cavill would return as Geralt of Rivia. Moreover, Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) Freya Allan (Ciri), MyAnna Buring (Tissaia de Vries), Mimi Ndiweni (Fringilla Vigo), and Joey Batey (Jaskier) will reprise their roles for the upcoming season.
However, with the deaths of Queen Calanthe, King Eist Tuirseach, Mousesack, and Princess Renfri in the first season, the respective cast members are not likely to portray their roles in the future. Fortunately, the streaming giant will compensate for the cast that will leave the beloved show.

The Witcher season 2 reveals new cast
It was recently revealed that Henry Cavill’s Geralt would be joined by four other witchers. The first one is Vesemir, played by Kim Bondia. The official Twitter account of Netflix announced,
“Introducing Vesemir: Kim Bodnia will play the Continent’s oldest and most experienced Witcher in Season 2 of #TheWitcher.”
Thue Ersted Rasmussen, who will play as Eskel, will star alongside with Bondia. The two other witchers who will complete the roster are Lambert and Coen. Paul Bullion and Yasen Atour will portray them, respectively.
The good news doesn’t stop there either as more additional stars will join the new four witchers. It includes Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, and Mecia Simson as Francesca.
What to expect in season 2
There will be no more confounding time-skips in season 2 of The Witcher. Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer will travel together in the same period to make the series a bit easier to follow. In addition, showrunner Lauren Hissrich revealed that she would focus on a pair of villains. On her official Twitter account, Hissrich shared,
“I can’t wait to dig deeper into Cahir and Fringilla in S2.”

The Witcher season 2 production status
Just like other shows, the production of The Witcher has been shut down since March due to the global pandemic. Moreover, one of the show’s cast members tested positive for COVID-19 disease. It prompted Netflix to recommend The Witcher cast and crew self-quarantine.
Fortunately, it appears that filming will commence soon for the highly-anticipated series. Restrictions will soon be lifted in the U.K, where The Witcher’s shooting is based. Hence, it is only a matter of time before the studio resumes shooting there.
Once the show can start the production again, the show will likely premiere on the summer of 2021. However, this is entirely reliant upon no further delays to production once it resumes.
