Netflix Original movie Kate is getting a video game adaptation as a timed, isometric shooter.
The Netflix Original film follows the life of a female assassin named Kate. But one who came with the unfortunate circumstance of getting poisoned, with only 24 hours to live—unless, a cure is found. If that isn’t a good premise for a film, then it has to be for a video game, at least. Which, thus, leads to Kate: Collateral Damage.
From an experienced developer
Kate: Collateral Damage is being developed by Ludic Studios, which is also known for making Akane. It’s also the same company behind the “developing title,” Wind Runners, which had been MIA for its early 2021 release. The developers describe their latest creation as a “time-attack, action roguelike”.
The game involves players mandatorily killing enemies along the way towards one major objective—survive long enough to finally come across the root of her serious life condition. This also meant not leaving an opponent behind as each kill counts towards extending the player’s timer before it runs out. Being stealthy, therefore, is never an option, given the game’s unique gameplay design.
Going gung-ho against opponents may be key to a successful in-game campaign. However, there are other factors that help the players stay longer in the game. Coming in the form of random buffs and modifiers, players can exploit whatever help the game provides in-game. Even hardcore players should not choose to overlook the benefit of an additional timer count towards a fruitful completion of a mission.
Melee combat
While guns play major role in the isometric shooter title, players can also wield melee weapons for close combat. For a game with Japan as its backdrop, sharp arsenals like katanas and knives play center stage in the action. Players will love to take advantage of these pointy weapons for their lethal effect when facing enemies up close and personal. This is not to mention at how fast the rate to which they can be employed as a means of offence.
Previous Netflix video game title
It is not usual that a Netflix film would get a video game approach. The last time that a show from the platform ever get the same treatment was back with Strangers Things 3. Which, expectedly, came during the height of the TV show’s popularity. Surprisingly, though, said video game title is no longer available among digital storefronts. But suspicion is strong that it may have something to do with Netflix’s venture into the video game space.
Kate: Collateral Damage will release on PC via Steam on October 22, 2021.
