Netflix has not yet renewed one of its hit teen series Never Have I Ever, but there is a good chance that it will return for its second season.
Since its premiere in April, Netflix’s Never Have I Ever gripped the young audience’s attention. The series was able to accomplish this by reliving teen’s long-ago days of angst, puberty, as well as frustration and confusion about the world.
The show joins Sex Education, Atypical, and The End of the F*ing World as another teen series that had people talking.
What the series is all about
Never Have I Ever is a coming-of-age comedy from co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher. It follows the story of a first-generation Indian American girl growing up in Southern California named Devi Vishwakumar.

The show begins with a tragedy when protagonist Devi’s father suddenly died. Shortly after, Devi inexplicably lost the use of her legs. As Devi started to get used to life without her father and with her disability, her mobility returns, just as curiously as it left.
With this at hand, she attempted to return to her normal life with a bang. Devi strived to change her social status, but friends, family, and feelings did not make it easy for her.
Will there be a second season
Although Netflix has not made an official announcement about the upcoming season, one of the creators of the series expressed optimism regarding the matter.
Lang Fisher stated,
“I’d love to keep telling the story and come back and see where these characters are. I’m optimistic but nothing’s a guarantee.”
Despite this uncertainty, there is a good chance that Never Have I Ever will be renewed for a second season considering the powerful forces such as Mindy Kaling, behind this show.
Kaling once mentioned,
“Bela (Netflix vice president of local language originals) was interested in seeing Indian characters ( such as Devi) who are not all like Princess Jasmine.”
Since there is no confirmation of the renewal for the show yet, the release date also remains vague.
What to expect
The storyline for the second installment has not yet been written, but its star, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, already has ideas about what its character will be able to explore next season.
In season 2, she intends to see three things: Devi becoming more appreciative of her family and friends; Devi expressing her sorrow at the loss of her father, and Devi celebrating her South Asian identity.
Maitreyi further said,
“ I think if Devi does those magic three, she might be a little bit more at peace with herself. “
