Sony showed off their brand new PS5 action game titled Project Eve, developed by Shift Up Corporation as their first foray into a major console title.
Project Eve received its first announcement from South Korean company Shift Up in 2019. It got its day in the limelight yet again during this week’s Playstation Showcase event.
The trailer featured a ton of combat gameplay, all in amazing detail that’s reminiscent of Bayonetta, Dark Souls, and Nier: Automata.
Eve is Shift Up’s first foray into AAA title
So far, Shift Up provided several details through the Playstation blog. In it, they note that their combat mechanics deliberately focus between attack, defense, and evasion “while remaining fluid and zestful.” Furthermore, this implies that the focus comes in the general action and movement of the character around the field.
“The only way to survive is to grasp the attack patterns of various enemies and counter with precise timing,” said the blog. “Continue the flow of battle after parrying and evading by weaving in multiple combo skills. Taking down enemies culminates in a spectacular and amusing display of power.
“The DualSense wireless controller’s haptic feedback amplifies this experience by manyfold. From the sensation of the blade slicing into the enemy to the exceptional skills that tingle your hands. We can’t wait to reveal new weapons that vividly showcase the DualSense controller’s features in the future.”
Eve combines several action titles over a post-apocalyptic setting
The trailer for Project Eve, including the details around the game, implies several details. The studio seems to be looking for a good in-between title against Dark Souls’ deliberately hard combat and Bayonetta’s action combo-oriented battle. In addition, the aesthetic is reminiscent of Korean MMORPGs like Black Desert.
The aesthetic is quite good, with beautiful lighting that takes advantage of the capabilities of the PS5. Enemy design is deliberate too, fitting the post-apocalyptic sci-fi organic monsters seen in the trailer. In addition, the story itself is Gears of War-esque, with a savage alien race taking over the world.
“In the not-too-distant future, mankind is expelled from Earth after losing the battle against the invaders called the NA:tives,” noted the blog. “To win back Earth, the player becomes Eve, the survivor of the paratrooper squad deployed from the Colony, who must fight through powerful enemies with new comrades. We invite you to join Eve’s adventure in the face of unknown creatures on a desolate, destroyed Earth.”
Project Eve does not have a release date so far. Furthermore, from what it looks like, Shift Up will likely want to bide their time. In addition, apart from the trailer, there’s no indication how far the development is at the moment.
