New Apple App coming to Windows 10 very soon

Share

Apple could be working towards the release of a new app for Windows 10. This is according to a report this week from an Italian news website.

As of the moment, Apple has only two apps in the Microsoft Store, which are iTunes and iCloud. iTunes is currently the only natural way to access Apple Music on Windows.

This number will change. According to Aggiornamenti Lumia (@ALumia_Italia), who has an eye on the feed of upcoming app releases, a new Apple application is coming soon to the Microsoft Store.

Apple App coming to Windows

Unlike Microsoft, which has less than 100 apps in the Apple App Store, Apple only has two apps in the Microsoft Store. However, a new report claims that the Apple app might be coming to Windows 10 this year.

Apple is getting ready to launch its next Windows app on the Microsoft Store, as per 9to5Mac. It’s not clear on which application this is about, but it’s not difficult to imagine a dedicated Windows app for Apple’s streaming services such as Apple Music and Apple TV+.

On the other hand, iTunes has been available on the Microsoft Store since 2018. However, it’s still the traditional desktop software rather than a UWP application, and there is no Apple TV+.

As the Mac now has a standalone application for Apple Music, the same experience might be available promptly for Windows users. The end of iTunes also brought two other new apps for the Mac: TV and Podcasts.

The Apple TV app is currently available on Smart TVs and other boxes, so this could also be the next Apple app available for Windows. As of now, PC users wanting to stream ‌Apple TV‌+ must do so via Apple’s website.

Universal Windows Platform

Last year, a LinkedIn job listing announced that Apple was looking to hire engineers with Universal Windows Platform (UWP) experience. Even though the reason behind this listing is not apparent, Apple said they are to “build the next generation of media apps for Windows.”

“Apple appears to be working on a set of media apps for Windows 10 that could replace iTunes, as it did on macOS earlier this year. The news comes by way of a job listing initially discovered by Neowin, which seeks a software engineer to help build the “next generation of media apps for Windows.”

UWP apps can run on Windows PCs, Xbox One, as well as HoloLens. This system could conceivably give Apple additional avenues to push its streaming services.
