New iPad Pro will launch in Q1 of 2021, MacBook Pro next

Share

A new iPad Pro is set to be released during the early part of 2021 and will be followed by releases of new Apple Silicon-powered MacBooks.

Apple will commence the company’s shift to Apple Silicon later this year. Tim Cook hasn’t officially announced which Mac will get the new chipset, but inside information point to either the iMac or Mac Mini.

Apple’s shift to full independence will push the company towards even greater heights. They can design their products to the best of their capacity without having to rely on third party suppliers. They’ve already started the shift with the iPad and the iPhone, and the results have been promising. The Apple Silicon is just the icing on the cake.

With the shift, 2021 will be an exciting year for the Cupertino-based company, which will be debuted by a new iPad Pro.

iPad Pro 2021 with mini-LED

Earlier rumors this year claimed that the company has been developing an ever better screen for their devices. TrendForce’s research said that this rumor is indeed a fact. Apple will reportedly release a refreshed iPad Pro equipped with a new mini-LED screen.

The new screen technology will give devices a wider color gamut and higher contrast ratios. In addition, localized dimming is also possible. As such, black portions of the screens appear as truly black with separate LED light units that shut off. Apple is expected to use this technology across all its new devices next year.

iPad Pro 2021 is also expected to sport the newest A14X Bionic chip. It will most likely be faster and even more battery efficient than the current A12Z bionic chip.

14-inch and 16-inch MacBooks

Other than the iPad Pro, TrendForce also expects the company to release the new MacBooks next year. The MacBook line up will have a 14-inch and 16-inch model. It could mean that the company will no longer ship any 13-inch laptop.

However, the laptop’s body size will remain the same as the 13-inch laptop. Instead, the company will just push the screen to achieve a bezel-less appearance. These will be the first laptops that the company will equip with the new Apple Silicon. So it will be interesting to see what the new chips will do the form factor of the MacBooks.

ARM-based chips can perform at the top of its system even with minimal physical cooling. As a result, laptops and tablets powered by these chips can be made thinner because they don’t need much cooling support. If Apple indeed moves into this track, it would mean the end of the MacBook Air’s purpose in the company’s laptop lineup.
