Geoff Keighley, the creator of The Game Awards, has formally announced Summer Game Fest, a four-month-long online event that will deliver in-game events, breaking news, and content that’s playable for free.
The newly unveiled Summer Game Fest will happen from May through August of this year and is being positioned by Keighley as an industry-wide global event that celebrates video games.
Keighley took the opportunity to do the unveiling himself through his official Twitter page, while also posting a teaser video in his tweet:
Introducing @summergamefest, a new season of news, in-game events, and playable content from the entire video game industry. May – August 2020, and a developer showcase with @iam8bit too. See you soon! https://t.co/Hp7WuLrjXk pic.twitter.com/DashSP4Q5I

Industry-wide scope
As mentioned earlier, the Summer Game Fest will be an industry-wide celebration for and by the gaming industry.
As such, the worldwide event will feature the participation of some of the biggest and well-known gaming companies and tech brands on the planet. These include:
- Sony PlayStation
- Microsoft Xbox
- Blizzard Entertainment
- Steam
- Electronic Arts (EA)
- Bethesda
- CD Projekt Red
- Riot Games
- Square Enix
And that’s just for the Phase 1 lineup, as noted by this tweet from Summer Game Fest’s official Twitter page:

What to expect
Keighley himself will perform double duties as both the curator, as well as the host of pre- and post-shows for Summer Game Fest.
Speaking of shows, all of the events will be accessible by users on the internet, particularly through the usual popular platforms and social media channels.
That means that gamers can just take full advantage of YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, Twitter, and other web venues in order to witness or take part in the digital festival.
Because Summer Game Fest is so new, the participants and partners have yet to announce the shows they have in store in the next four months.
But video game platforms such as Xbox and Steam are widely expected to prepare demos and even offer free trials for a number of titles, at least for a limited period only.
For the latter, it will include the Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition, which will happen from June 9 to June 14, which incidentally falls on the same week this year’s E3 was supposed to be held before it got canceled.
Apart from demos and free games, the inaugural Summer Game Fest will also promise panels and interviews featuring some of the most respected and exciting game developers and game publishing companies working in the industry today.
For those who want to closely follow any future update regarding the digital festival, they can actually sign up at Summer Game Fest’s official website in order to receive alerts or notifications regarding the event’s schedule.
