New ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater’ title allegedly in the works

A fellow pro skateboarder has sparked rumors that a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game is due later this year.

Professional skateboarder Jason Dill recently appeared on an episode of The Nine Club, a skateboarding podcast, and let it slip that a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater installment is set for release sometime this year.

Jason Dill leaked the unofficial news on-air to professional skateboarder comrade Chris Roberts in a bid to promote his music and skateboarding merchandise.

The upcoming mystery title

During the interview, Dill asked Roberts if he was in the loop about the new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game scheduled for release in 2020, to which Roberts responded that he was aware.

Dill then went on to mention that his song would be featured in the game, along with his signature board which would be added to the selection that players could choose from.

As to whether the game will be a brand new installment in the franchise, a remake, or a remaster of one of Tony Hawk’s more memorable outings, that’s all up for speculation at this point.

But the mere thought of the series being brought back to life is enough to make any fan excited.

Tony Hawk’s video game legacy

The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise is arguably the most beloved skateboarding or x-games series in the history of video games.

The games were widely known for their stellar soundtracks, intuitive controls, and adrenaline-infused gameplay. Not to mention all the great cameos from the likes of Darth Maul, Spider-Man, Shrek, and a whole lot more.

What the Pro Skater games lacked in realism it made up for with impossible tricks and insane combos that would attract skateboarding enthusiasts and gamers alike, even those without a particular interest in skateboarding.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater made its debut on the original PlayStation console in September 1999 and was later ported to the Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, Gameboy Color, and Nokia N-Gage.

The sequel, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2, followed a year later while the third and fourth installments took the leap to the next generation of consoles and were released in 2001 and 2002 respectively. The first four games are known for being the greatest in the series.

Publisher Activision continued to churn out Tony Hawk games year after year as Tony Hawk’s Underground 1 and 2, American Wasteland, Downhill Jam, Project 8, and Proving Ground were all met with good to a great reception from both fans and critics.

The only stain on Tony Hawk’s video game reputation would come from the latest game in the franchise, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, which was heavily criticized for its awful graphics, wonky physics, and game-breaking bugs.

Let’s hope the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater title can put the series back on track.
