The ruling party’s new members include openly gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender ministers.
A prominent leader like Finance Minister Grant Robertson is openly gay.
More than half of the MPs are women this time. And it’s a big thing in the political history of the country.
Also, there are 16 indigenous Maori MPs. And the first leader of African origin, Ibrahim Omar, and Vanushi Walters of Sri Lankan origin.
Not only the ruling party, but The Green Party also has a majority of new MPs as women.
Moreover, most of the MPs are younger, and some of them even include millennials.
Previously, the Jacinda Ardern herself became the youngest PM when she first arrived in 2017 during NZ general elections. She was 37 years old at that time.
Globally she’s also known to support women’s rights, diversity, equality, and inclusivity.
PM to ally with Green Party
Although the Labour Party has registered a big victory, PM Ardern is thinking of making the Green Party an ally.
The latter also managed to secure 10 seats, with many of its candidates being women or LGBTQ+ or indigenous leaders.
Right now, the supporters of Jacinda Ardern in New Zealand are celebrating her big win. They also hope for the Labour Party’s government to bring new reforms and solutions regarding the pandemic.
COVID-19 is obviously the biggest challenge that governments of all the nations are trying to eradicate as soon as possible.
Along with that, global warming has become a threat as well. And last year, New Zealand became the first nation to bring a Zero Carbon Bill for that.
It aimed to reduce the country’s carbon emissions by zero percent before or till the year 2050.
