Newly-remastered edition of ‘Shiren the Wanderer’ gets new contents, including bonus dungeons

Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate is getting re-released once again. This time as a remastered version for both the Nintendo Switch and PC.

Shiren the Wanderer was originally released as a handheld title for the Nintendo 3DS back in 2010. Five years later, in 2015, the game sees a subsequent port on the PS Vita, which adds new features to the game. The same PS Vita release was also released in both North America and Europe in 2016.

New contents

Like the PS Vita port, this newly remastered version of Shiren the Wanderer will see the game with additional contents. Aside from the online connectivity feature, which died down on the Vita version just last year, the game will also be having multiple dungeons.

These dungeons are unique and, individually, give the game a unique twist. Consequently, giving it a level of freshness that is new even to the veterans of the game. There are three gameplay modes in the updated version, namely the “Bladeless Wasteland,” “Cloister of Certain Doom,” and “Garden of Destiny.”

Bladeless Wasteland is a dungeon that pays little regard to melee. Not only does this mode lets you dish out negligible damage outputs against opponents, but it also does not allow for weapon drops. However, where physical attacks have no significance, other forms of attack compensate. The key to winning the Bladeless Wasteland is to focus on ranged attacks, including the use of throwing rocks and bow and arrows.

The Cloister of Certain Doom is another feature that adds a different kind of challenge in-game. With this mode, players have a target number for turns to complete a particular dungeon. Failing to meet this number, the players will see themselves going back to the surface for redoing.

Lastly, there is the Garden of Destiny, which is yet another unique challenge in the game. While the previous mode has leverage for keeping your turns as minimal as possible to escape a dungeon, this mode lets you earn greater experience. This means that killing opponents in very short turns is the key to gaining large chunks of experience. Conversely, kill an opponent long enough, and the player will see themselves badly rewarded with low experience points.

Other additions

Other notable features that come exclusively to the latest remaster includes a Live Display for live-streaming, the Wanderer Rescue system, global rankings, and a music collection.

Of the list, the Wanderer Rescue system makes for a special interest for players for its “loot-saving” capability. Through it, players get to offset losing acquired treasures in the game by asking other players for a literal deliverance.

Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate will re-release on the Switch and PC globally on Dec. 2, 2020. Japan will get the same game a day after on Dec. 3, 2020.
