Craig’s final outing as James Bond comes via the upcoming movie No Time to Die. Since the actor expressed his desire to retire more than five years ago, speculations have risen over his potential replacement.
Cavill’s name has been on the unofficial list from fans and punters, and an AI recently confirmed he is the strongest contender for the role. The research, conducted by Largo.ai, revealed that The Witcher star is 92.3 percent well-suited as Agent 007. He’s closely followed by Richard Armitage at 92 percent and Idris Elba at 90.9 percent.
The company stated that they took a “DNA footprint” of some of the actors in contention. This DNA footprint comprised more than a thousand on-screen attributes like “character type, story elements, and cinematographic tones.”
The AI system also weighed on the reaction of the audience while cross-comparing the actors’ data with the “DNA footprint” of James Bond on the screen.
“This is crucial given research and previous projects have found a very high correlation between the success of a movie and the actor/character match rate – such correlation is more important than the popularity of the actor,” the company said in the press release.
British bookies, however, revealed that James Norton is the most favored to nab the role of the next James Bond. However, the AI’s analysis showed that the actor’s DNA footprint is only at 74.2 percent.
The AI also included searches to include non-British actors and actresses. The Boys star Karl Urban, who is from New Zealand, was on the top of the list. His DNA rate was even higher than Cavill at 96.7 percent.
Other actors on the list were Captain America actor Chris Evans and Oscar-winner Will Smith. Among the women, those that came up high in the ranking were Angelina Jolie, Katee Sackhoff and MMA fighter Gina Carano.
Meanwhile, Craig’s No Time to Die was supposed to premiere in theaters last April 10, but the pandemic affected its release. The movie, instead, will screen in November at selected theaters amid safe COVID-19 protocols.
No Time to Die is the 25th James Bond movie, which will also feature Rami Malek as the villain. Ralph Fiennes, Léa Seydoux, Naomie Harris, and Ana De Armas are also in the cast.
