The Art Basel Miami Beach will be held from December 2-4, 2021 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
It will be one of the first major introductions to blockchain technology for physical art collectors. In collaboration with NFT Now and OpenSea, Christie’s is organizing an invite-only show in Miami.
The “Gateway Exhibition” features artwork by 34 NFT artists, including Andre Oshea, Ash Thorp, Chad Knight, and Sarah Zucker.
Aorist will also have an exhibition during the art event. Aorist is an interdisciplinary art project that combines art and technology.
It aims to be a green NFT marketplace by minting NFTs with Algorand.
Aorist will debut “Crossroads,” a decentralized event combining physical installations in Miami, AR, immersive experiences, and online-only artworks.
Physical-digital crossroads
Refik Anadol’s art is prominent in the Crossroads “display.” In “Machine Hallucinations: Coral,” he created a real sculpture of coral from 1,742,772 photos of coral.
The most expensive art will be matched with a digital representation, a 3D representation, a physical sculpture, and finally a bigger edition print.
Aureia Harvey, Jonas Lund, Joanie Lemercier, and Quayola will also have pieces on display.
The “Crossroads” display is ironic in that it will only accept dollars for payment. Rodriguez-Fraile thinks Ethereum’s volatility renders it unsuitable for currency use.
Green NFT exhibition by Tezos
Tezos, a low-energy blockchain based on Proof-of-Stake consensus, will also exhibit NFTs at Art Basel under the theme “Humans + Machines: NFTs and the Changing World of Art.”
Visitors to the Miami show will be able to develop and mint personal NFTs, as well as hear a panel of experts discuss the ramifications of this new digital art form.
“Right Click + Save” was a collaboration between a Singaporean art and restaurant and crypto exchange Coinhako earlier this year.
“Machine Hallucinations: Synthetic Mars Terrian” by Refik Analdol was among the works on display.
