A new developing title based on the Ni no Kuni series is set to launch this year in Japan. But it will be a mobile massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).
Dubbed Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, the game will see both iOS and Android as its running platforms, as per Gematsu.
There is not yet an official announcement on whether the game is also heading for a Western release.
The Things We Know So Far
As of writing, there are already two articles published by Gematsu which covers the topic. One published in late 2019 which highlights early information about the game and a more recent article which discusses the newly established website of the title.
Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds will play similarly as the most recent title in the game as an action-RPG. Similarly, the game will also feature a management aspect through the creation of player’s kingdom.
However, this mobile MMORPG title will not be under the hands of Level-5. Rather, the development is handed over to a more experienced online game developer, NCSOFT. The same company that made Lineage 2: Revolution.
Returning Features
While the game’s creation comes from a completely different team of developers, it will still share certain similarities from the series it takes root from. One specifically, is the visuals which retains the same old cel-shaded graphics as the first two Ni no Kuni titles.
Another returning feature to the game is the art style which is reminiscent of Studio Ghibli’s. Partly as co-creator of the original Ni no Kuni game on the PlayStation 3. A signature art style that the series has since incorporated.
Drawing inspiration from the original, this mobile MMORPG title will also feature familiars, similar to Oliver’s.
Like most memorable RPG titles, the Ni no Kuni series is notable for its music. Cross Worlds will not be any different, considering the remaining presence of Joe Hisashi, composer of the game’s iconic music. Which, according to the developers themselves, will complement the game’s “high-quality cutscenes.”
Strictly MMORPG
Being a title that capitalizes on amazing story-telling, Cross Worlds revolves around two dimensions and the link between the two. In this MMORPG, players take on the role of multiple characters with the premise of entering the VR world, only to be drag in a different world entirely. As is true to the series, it will involve a Herculean task of saving both from an impending ruin.
As an MMORPG title, the game will rely heavily on combat which will see players engaging in either PvE or PvP. Another exciting element on the game is Kingdom Battles, which pit one player’s kingdom against an opponent. With the end goal of having a capital city through winning throne battles, this special feature is a mainstay of the game.
