Nick Cordero has finally regained consciousness after going into a medically-induced coma. He has been in the hospital for more than a month due to COVID-19 infection.
The news on the current status of Nick Cordero first surfaced from his wife Amanda Kloot’s announcement on Tuesday.
Kloots, who was holding her 10-month old baby in her arms, posted an update of the broadway star’s progress through her Instagram Stories. She said, with excitement, that Cordero is finally awake.
In her words, she detailed: “Finally confirmed after two days of, ‘Is he doing this?’ You get so excited, the nurses are like, ‘We think this is happening.’ The doctor confirmed today that, ‘Yep, I think Nick is awake.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ ”
Cordero reportedly first started showing signs of waking up on Mother’s Day. She called his waking up a miracle and added that “everything is looking good.”

One of my favorite pictures of Nick from our honeymoon in Italy! We had some great news this morning. Nick is starting to follow commands and doing simple tracking!!!!! He is very weak so even just opening his eyes is a struggle, but it is happening. He is starting to wake up!! We are by no means out of the woods yet, there are still concerns with other things, but this news today on his mental status is a win!! #wakeupnick #youcandoit #coderocky
Still very weak condition
Kloots informed her followers though that he is still very weak from the complications and medical interventions that he faced. She said that even the mere closing of his eyes takes a lot of energy.
Nonetheless, she is very happy of the progress of her husband. She reported that Cordero is already responsive and is now able to follow commands.
She also said that the medical staff is now waiting for the 41-year old to regain strength and fully recover. He is also expected to go through physical therapy to make him stronger and to adjust to his new normal.
After everything that he’s been through, Kloots called her husband a “true superhero.” She noted that they still have a long way to go to recovery.
Nick Cordero was first hospitalized on March 30 after being diagnosed with pneumonia. He later tested positive for COVID-19.
Since then, his body went through many complications due to the virus infection. He was intubated April 1 and then went into septic shock.
He also had two “mini strokes,” temporary pacemaker implant, and the worst of all, blood clotting. He was ordered for right leg amputation due to the blood clotting complications.
Kloots revealed last month on Instagram that Cordero’s lungs have been severely damaged that it looks like he has been a smoker for 50 years.
Hope in the darkness
Despite the heavy challenge that Cordero’s family went through, his wife continued to cling on to the hope. She regularly posted updates on her husband’s condition with the viral hashtag #WakeUpNick in support of the actor.
It was terrifying for her but she had to remain strong throughout her husband’s healing process. In an interview with CBS This Morning, she told host Gayle King that she believes that Cordero will wake up.
