National Treasure series and movie confirmed

The producer of the show, Jerry Bruckheimer, announced that there is a National Treasure TV series for Disney Plus in development. Reportedly, the production crew is developing the series alongside the National Treasure upcoming movie.

Bruckheimer said,

“We’re certainly working on one National Treasure for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure but they’re both very active.”

Series and movie development stage

Both the National Treasure Disney Plus show and the third film also seem to be in early stages of development,

He further stated,

“The film version is being written right now, and the television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and we have an outline of the future episodes.”

The producer was light on details for the Disney Plus show. Nonetheless, he mentioned that it’s the same concept but a young cast. It’s also unclear if Nicolas Cage will be reprising his role as Benjamin Franklin Gates in the series.

National Treasure movie

Four months before the recent news regarding the series, Disney has officially announced a National Treasure movie in the works. Bad Boys for Life screenwriter Chris Bremner has been tapped to write the script.

The movie will follow historian and occasional heist mastermind Benjamin Franklin Gates. He will hunt for treasures hidden in America’s oldest nooks and crannies. Reportedly, the new theatrical film would have the same cast as the first two movies.

This means that Nicolas Cage will continue to star as Benjamin Gates. Cage will portray a cryptologist and treasure hunter seeking to unravel the secrets of major governing figures in American history.  Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Jon Voight, and Harvey Keitel will also reprise their roles.
