SinoAlice, a 2017 Japanese mobile RPG title has finally made its global release this month and they are teaming up with a Nier: Automata in an attempt to boost its popularity.
Pokelabo Inc. teams up with Square Enix to hype up its mobile RPG title SinoAlice this month. A limited-time event featuring Nier: Automata will be their strategy for promoting the game.
Headed by Yoko Taro, who is also the creator of Nier: Automata, the collaboration should serve as a treat to his fans while they wait for Nier Replicant Remake. In addition, the game just surpassed over 2 million registrations according to the SINoALICE website.
SinoAlice at a quick glance
Gacha games have been around for quite a while now. If you’re new to the gacha (capsule-toy vending machine) scene, it is quite popular in Japan. This is where people spend money on collecting figurines.
But with the age of mobile gaming upon us, gacha games have evolved and we see games like Final Fantasy Brave Exivus in 2015 and it’s still one of the best-reviewed games. However, another gacha mobile RPG is making rounds on the internet this week with SINoALICE.
Yoko Taro’s creation is inspired by popular children’s stories but told in a dark and chilling manner in which he is known for. The characters range from Alice (in Wonderland), Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Snow White, and a whole lot more.
The player is taken to a library where he has the option to choose what story he wants to follow with the goal of resurrecting their author through killing dozens of nightmares.
Nier: Reincarnation makes its appearance in SinoAlice
It’s no surprise that Nier: Automata is making noise this year as other game titles such as Crysis and Horizon Zero Dawn are releasing their PC ports and remasters.
Gamespot was able to interview the SinoAlice producers including Yoko Taro. Square Enix’s Yoshinari Fujimoto also told Gamespot why SinoAlice went for a western release:
“The folks at Pokelabo said, ‘We really want to release this globally'”
Supporting Fujimoto’s statement, Pokelabo’s Shogo Maeda added as per Gamespot:
“Even before the Japan release, we thought this was a title that could put up a good fight globally in terms of its world-building [while also appealing to] Yoko’s fan base. It’s been three years, but we still feel the same way.”
As for Yoko Taro, his face is always concealed in interviews as he always wears an Emil helmet displaying his eccentric identity. However, the disturbing elements he places in his story-telling would captivate the fans in this Tales of Terror RPG.
So whether you’re a character collector or a gacha enthusiast, this game might be worth picking up since it’s also free on Android and iOS. Those who pre-registered before the official launch are entitled to freebies.
As for the Nier: Automata event, it will run from July 16 until August 6. The much-awaited Nier: Reincarnation will run from August 6 to August 20 as another separate event collaboration with SinoAlice.
