Nier: Automata will come to the Games Pass and Windows Store with an improved set of features. Some of these features include fixes to the notorious borderless window mode. This version also works out areas of the game that Square Enix never fixed.
For those who bought the 2019 Steam version of Automata, the memories are likely bad and sour. The “Game of the YoRHa” edition was among the worst ports out there, likely second only to Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition.
The game was an ok port at the time, but many felt disappointed due to it being a direct port. It had a locked framerate, which stayed at 30 frames per second similar to consoles for starters. The UI was also badly stretched when using its ultrawide version.
The keyboard and mouse controls were also finicky, while the borderless windowed mode needed an external program. Square Enix never fixed these issues, which makes it problematic for vanilla players. Only a mod tool, Fix Automata Resolution tool, did the job.
Now, Nier: Automata will be available for both the Windows Store and Games Pass for PC. Their version will come pre-fixed, without the need for external fixes or secondary software. So far, their version will use the original “Become as Gods” edition for the Xbox.
The “Become As Gods” edition has the DLC already bundled in. It’s generally the same game but better, coming with a proper borderless windowed mode. The game will also run on proper resolution and will come with a way to enable FidelityFX CAS.
While the framerate will have a 60 fps cap, Windows’ Automata will be more stable. Many of the fans note the lack of stutters or crashes that are common in the PC release.
Apart from the quality of life improvements, the Steam version will be the same as the Games Pass edition. Some can say that the Steam version is superior, as it can undergo mods and visual improvements.
So far, Automata on Steam can use special visual improvement mods and codes to unlock framerates. Even then, there’s no question that the Games Pass will be the more technically-sound vanilla version.
Nier: Automata is now available on the Windows Store and Games Pass. More games come to the Games Pass, including critically acclaimed games like Octopath Traveler.
