Currently, a Wii U exclusive title, Nintendo’s own made and published, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, is rumored to be coming to the Switch.
With one of the Wii U’s exclusives said to be creeping to the current-gen platform, the console’s significance is becoming more obsolete.
Substantial Claims
But the notion is more than just speculation. As per VentureBeat, Nintendo’s roadmap for the year doesn’t only consist of the previously talked about ‘Super Mario’ remakes, but also Pikmin 3.
The said remakes based on the Super Mario series were identified as Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy, according to VGC.
While technically a commercial flop, the Wii U is a console that remains home to titles never playable in any other consoles. Excluding Pikmin 3, a few notable titles remain—The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that was ported to the Switch early in its life cycle is one example of previous exclusives. This was soon followed by another Nintendo title: New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, which also saw success in its new home console.
However, more than just a shift from one console to the next, both titles got a retouch, adding essential improvements and contents.
Another Former Exclusive
More recently as well as the release of The Wonderful 101 Remastered, also another previous exclusive Wii U title. Not by Nintendo, but by PlatinumGames.
Yet, the game’s port is not necessarily because of a venture to the company. It culminates from a successful Kickstarter campaign that crowdfunded the project to come over to Switch and other platforms.
As of writing, there is still not an official word from Nintendo about Pikmin 3 Deluxe. Considering how the company and the audiences perceive the IP, it’s almost certain that it’d be premium in treatment.
Pikmin in Hindsight
Pikmin is a brainchild of Shigeru Miyamoto’s whose first two entries debuted on the GameCube. The games soon had the Wii as its new home as part of Nintendo’s ‘New Play Control!’ program. A plan that officially brought Gamecube games to its successor, the Nintendo Wii.
Pikmin 3 is the series’ latest entry that saw an introduction to the Wii U back in 2013. There has not been a Pikmin title since which drives much anticipations to the franchise. The likely port of Pikmin 3 to the Nintendo Switch being one of them.
To date, there’s still no confirmation from Nintendo about Pikmin 3 Deluxe coming to the Switch.
