Nintendo to launch upgraded Switch in 2021 plus new games

Nintendo is planning to release an upgraded version of its popular Switch game console next year. This could be the first serious performance upgrade since its release in March 2017.

Ever since the Nintendo Switch was released back in 2017, there have only been two versions of it: the base model, and the Switch Lite. Lite is a version of the Switch that cannot be connected to a TV.

Many reports said that it was something of a disappointment when it came out. Lite was a handheld-only version of the Switch that couldn’t even play all of the Switch games. While it’s smaller and cheaper than the base Switch, its inability to connect to a monitor means that it’s overall inferior to the base model.

The 2021 Version of the Nintendo Switch

According to multiple reports, Nintendo is going to unveil an updated version of its Switch gaming console next year. As reported by Taiwan’s Economic Daily News and Bloomberg, Nintendo will unveil a new console with upgraded processing power and 4K graphics.

The Kyoto, Japan-based gaming giant will also unveil a new series of games that will accompany the launch of the console. The console will be launched after the holiday shopping season. This is the period when Microsoft and Sony are slated to release their upcoming consoles.

Setting 2021 as the release year for Nintendo’s latest gaming console would avoid going head-to-head and direct competition with Microsoft and Sony.

As rumors claim, the two other tech companies are expected to release their next-generation hardware in the fall. These consoles are said to be Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Sony’s PlayStation 5. The upcoming devices are set to launch amid a viral pandemic that has given a significant boost to the video game industry.

New Games are Coming

Nintendo also plans to release a slew of new games to coincide with the new Switch upgrade. If these stories are all true, it could conceivably allow the 2021 Switch to compete with the Xbox Series X and PS5.

The Japan-based company hasn’t announced any big titles for this holiday season yet. However, Nintendo has major game titles still in the pipeline after being officially announced years ago. These awesome games include Metroid Prime 4 and the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

So it may well make sense to promote them alongside new, more powerful hardware. As of now, there is no guarantee since Nintendo is quite regarding the rumors.
