New World players who are seeking to experience the game with a gamepad will have to resort to an alternative. This idea comes following Amazon’s official claim of not implementing controller support to the game—at least, not “for now”.
Playing with a pair of a mouse and a keyboard is undeniably a hallmark of PC gaming, for better or worse. While some games do play ideally with the combo, such as with FPS; there are others that play best with a traditional controller. In other instances, it is just a matter of preference between the two, such as the case with Amazon’s developing MMO. Or, for that matter, most MMOs, in general. However, for the game’s developer, it seems that the former is truer still.
Special Demand for Gamepad Support
Players are satisfied enough to be able to play the game well with a pair of typing and pointing devices. But there could be players in the community that requires an exception. Like, for instance, a player named Brian Torsey whose medical disposition demands the use of a gamepad to play on PC. As per tweet, the special player was quoted saying:
“I use controller for most games because of issues with my neck that make me use my computer in a reclined position. I noticed they work for movement and basic things. I really hope they will work natively at launch”.
“No Controller Support”
Responding to the tweet, New World’s official Twitter page stated, “There is no controller support currently planned for New World”. In a separate post, it claims that “all of the game’s inputs are re-bindable and are compatible with most accessibility control devices.”
It is a pretty upfront and blunt response, but one that seems to contradict its previous pledge for controller support. Just back in March, the same Twitter account made a tweet suggesting the complete opposite.
Is controller support still planned for launch? That will be the deciding factor for me.

Only to retract on the statement several months after, in June, with no given explanation.
Sorry, but we don't plan gamepad support for now. But you have some options with third-party software if you really want to play with a gamepad.

Reason Unknown
It is unclear as to why Amazon has chosen to ditch the controller support, with it being a fundamental feature in most PC games. But amid the issue, the developer claims that there’s a third-party software that could render the functionality.
“But you have some options with third-party software if you really want to play with a gamepad.”
There is no telling whether or not the developer will reverse its decision with regards to the controller support any time soon. But as it is, Amazon does not seem to have the willingness to do so “for now”.
