The Nubia Play is the second gaming smartphone from ZTE to employ the high-profile 144Hs refresh rate.
Only a month after ZTE launched the RedMagic 5G, the world’s first smartphone with a 144Hz display refresh rate, the Chinese smartphone giant now followed it up with a release that is sure to catapult users with a slightly limited budget.
144Hz refresh rate on a mid-range gaming phone
ZTE has finally announced the Nubia Play, its first mid-range smartphone to feature a 144Hz refresh rate. The newest gaming phone from the firm is built around on a 6.65-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. Additionally, the phone employs a 240Hz touch sampling rate and an in-display fingerprint scanner.
The Nubia Play is also among the smartphones in its segment, which still sports a clean, cutout-free design, that is all adorned with the classic top and bottom bezels.
Mid-range internals
The Dual SIM-enabled Nubia Play is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G chipset, which also makes the phone to be 5G-capable. Running the GPU side of the phone is Adreno 620.
In the RAM and ROM department, the Nubia Play packs 6GB/8GB of RAM tiers, with 128GB/256GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage options. For its battery, the phone settles on a massive 5,100mAh capacity, with support for 30W fast wired charging. The handset, however, doesn’t support wireless charging.
Quad cameras and other key features
Around the back, the Nubia Play employs a quadruple-camera setup, which comprises of a 48MP wide sensor as its primary camera. The main camera then gets accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide sensor, 2MP macro lens, and 2MP depth sensor. On the phone’s top bezel, on the other hand, is a 12MP front-facing camera.
ZTE’s Nubia Play also comes with some noteworthy add-ons geared for proper mobile gaming. For instance, the phone features two capacitive shoulder buttons, which enhance the phone’s appeal as a gaming utility.
Other key features of the Nubia Play include Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB Type-C. A 3.5mm headphone jack isn’t featured on the phone.
Pricing and availability
The Nubia Play is set to retail in three color variants – Black, Blue, and White. It is confirmed to carry a price tag of CNY 2,400 for its base 6GB/128GB, while its 8GB/128GB trim is priced at CNY 2,700. The phone’s top-tier model 8GB/256GB model retails for CNY 3,000.
The Nubia Play’s official sales will begin on April 24 in China. ZTE is yet to reveal the phone’s international availability
