It is without a doubt a winner when it comes to performance. Thus, every PC gamer wants to get their hands on one.
Unfortunately, scalpers and bots got to the cards first as it gets sold out in seconds. It is understandable why interested users are disappointed. Nvidia surely knows that the cards will be very much in-demand.
However, it is more frustrating to see the RTX 3080 cards getting sold on eBay at an exorbitant price.
A simple eBay search for the latest Nvidia graphics card yields listings that are more than double the SRP.
The Nvidia RTX 3080 Founder’s Edition, which is the one being advertised for US$699, is currently priced at US$1,700. Other listings go as high as $6,100, which is 8.7 times higher than the retail price.
Even third party cards from Asus, PNY, EVGA, Zotac, and many more are not spared from the hoarding.
For instance, the PNY RTX 3080 XLR8 Gaming Epic model is selling for $1,399. Now, AIB cards are more expensive than the Founder’s Edition, but some are priced too much.
On the other hand, the MSI RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio is listed for $1,800. The MSI Overclocked edition 3080 card is listed for $5,000.
Moving on to Facebook Marketplace, some users are selling their RTX 3080 for $1,400. There are pre-order listings, but during times like this, some are a scam.
Several fans expressed their dismay on Twitter. The disgruntled enthusiasts replied to Nvidia’s post about the RTX 3080.
Users noted that the system is all over the place. Others wondered if the products ever came in stock in the first place.
One way that fans may do is to wait hours before the online stores open in order to secure a video card. However, the Nvidia online shop sold out in 1.2 seconds according to another user.
Another sure way to secure a card is to lineup really early at brick and mortar stores such as MicroCenter. Eventually, that is not a guaranteed purchase.
There were several reports that physical stores only received 10 units for the graphics card. Some may arrive at a later date but it could not meet the demand.
The Nvidia RTX 3080 is one of the biggest graphics cards this year. It is unfortunate that this happened to its users. Hopefully, AMD Big Navi has something up its sleeve to sway disappointed Nvidia fans.
