Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is getting the Golden Edition update this coming Friday via the Apple Arcade, and it comes with major contents that substantially improve the game.
Regarded as the biggest update since the Oceanhorn 2’s launch, the Golden Edition free update adds a slew of contents into the game. They include new side-quests, puzzles, dungeons, items, voice lines, and an expanded ending.

The added gameplay contents are divided into two parts—Shield of Chronos and Criminal Hunt.
Shield of Chronos primarily gives players a new dungeon to play at. If completed, it rewards diligent players of a shield with the power to deflect projectile attacks. The added ability gives the players a layer of flexibility in handling different situations, especially involving long-ranged enemies.
Criminal Hunt makes for another expansion to the game, which introduces mini-bosses and new dungeons to every area in-game. The best part of overcoming these boss monsters is that they can be put to prison, making a trophy out of each.
Being able to do more quest-based activities indeed makes for a significant part of the update. Subsequently adding more hours into each progress’ clocked time. However, the update also covers the quality of gameplay changes as well to make the game more enjoyable.
Sleek and Smooth
The quality changes include enhanced graphics that make the game look more beautiful than ever. Areas of improvement include the user interface, the game’s animations, tutorials, and even some of the Oceanhorn 2’s landscape. Giving the game a breath of fresh air in terms of visual fidelity.
The result makes for unsurprisingly the closest thing to a console game to play in an iOS device, in terms of graphics.
Furthermore, the device now also adds the ability to hit the 60 frames-per-second mark that essentially smoothens the way the game runs.
Before the update, Oceanhorn 2 is only capable of running at the rate of 30 frames-per-second, which occasionally feels sluggish. That is a stiff 30 FPS cap, regardless of the capability of the iOS device running the game.
Although the game can be played with a touchscreen, the overall experience works wonderfully with an external controller.
All in all, the Golden Edition update brings 20 hours’ worth of additional gameplay experience to the players.
Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is currently available at the Apple Store and is playable via Apple’s subscription-based service, Apple Arcade.
