One OK Rock’s Taka covers ‘Open Arms’ ahead livestream

ONE OK ROCK's Taka

One OK Rock’s vocalist Taka Moriuchi teamed up with Arnel Pineda for a special collaboration ahead of the band’s stadium Livestream.

Two of the world’s greatest rock band vocalists serenaded everyone amid the pandemic — One OK Rock’s Taka and Journey’s Arnel Pineda.

On Sept. 14, Taka and Pineda flaunted their powerhouse vocals in a new cover of Open Arms.

The video, which the Journey frontman posted on his YouTube Channel, surprised their fans as they relived the classic rock song.

In addition, the 53-year-old singer revealed that the collaboration happened “to honor the legacy of Journey’s Escape album.”

As of the writing, the video already scored nearly half a million views and thousands of comments from both OOR and Journey’s fandoms.

The performance marked the first time Taka and Pineda came together to cover a hit song. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, fans can expect to hear more from the duo online.

Open Arms Has Been Decades-Old Masterpiece

Prior to this project, Open Arms already caught people’s hearts when Journey first released it in January 1982. This became part of the 1981 album “Escape.”

The song also made noise when it landed the official theme song spot for the sci-fi fantasy film Heavy Metal. Since then, it became one of Journey’s most remarkable hit songs.

Meanwhile, the American rock band continued to play music with Pineda when he officially joined in December 2007.

Journey founding member and guitarist Neal Schon saw videos of Pineda’s band, The Zoo, making Journey song covers on YouTube. He then invited him to audition for the band.

While Journey has been playing for decades now, OOR has also been doing the same since 2015.

Following his online collaboration with Pineda, the lead vocalist also started preparing for the upcoming One OK Rock’s “Field Of Wonder.”

The band has been recording behind the scenes since the beginning. They also share more insight into the stadium Livestream through their YouTube Channel.

In one of its most recent trailers, the band-of-four can be seen practicing some of its fill-ins. They also went deeper into explaining the details about the set.

The second trailer shows One OK Rock’s Taka discussing the suggestion of mixing two songs as part of a medley.

They scheduled to launch “Field Of Wonder” at ZOZO Marine Stadium in Chiba, Japan — the home of the Chiba Lotte Marines baseball team.

Meanwhile, viewers can already purchase their tickets online before the Livestream on Oct. 11.
