OnePlus has just launched via an online live streaming event its newest phones, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.
The latest addition to the OnePlus line up was just announced last night in an online-only live-streamed event.
The company has always been touted as the flagship killer. It always had its aim against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S Series and Apple’s iPhones. This year OnePlus joins their ranks.
OnePlus was famously known as the go-to smartphone for consumers who both like powerful specs but want to pay a fraction of flagship phones’ prices. This year the contrary is true.
OnePlus 8 Pro flagship specs
The main feature that the OnePlus 8 Pro boasts is its screen refresh rate at 120Hz. That is a territory that only Samsung was present in. That was until the launch last night.
OnePlus even took the OnePlus 8 Pro to even greater heights by making the device capable of the doing the 120Hz refresh-rate at a QHD+ setup. Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra could only do the same refresh-rate at an FHD configuration.
The #OnePlus8 combines an incredible display, powerful hardware, and burdenless software for a smooth user experience.
With a never-before-seen 120 Hz QHD+ AMOLED Display, the #OnePlus8Pro sets a new standard for what a flagship can be.

For those that don’t really see the difference between a 90Hz refresh rate and a 120Hz refresh rate, the company offers the former one in the OnePlus 8 model.
The OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 still sport a curved glass similar to its predecessor. The screen is 6.78 inches for the former and 6.55 inches for the later. Both phones make the experience of using the phone quite immersive.
Additionally, the OnePlus 8 Pro also has a quad-camera setup. The main shooter being a 48MP camera that is supported by a 48MP ultra-wide camera, a Color Filter camera, and a 3x Telephoto Camera.
These cameras are the only noticeable difference between the visible hardware between the OnePlus 8 Pro and the OnePlus 8.
Internally, both the OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset.
OnePlus 8 Pro comes with an IP68 rating, which means that the phone is virtually dustproof and can be immersed in one meter of water up to 30minutes at a time. The OnePlus 8 does not come with that certification.
Flagship features at a flagship price
As mentioned earlier, OnePlus has been known to be the phone that gives the most bang for the buck. The price tags of the recent releases don’t support that notion anymore.
The base model for the OnePlus 8 ships at $699, with 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal memory. It’s 12GB RAM and 256GB configuration ships at $799.
The OnePlus 8 Pro, on the other hand, ships at $899 for the base model of 8GB of RAM and 128GB. The maxed-out OnePlus 8 Pro ships at a whopping $999.
