OnePlus 8T Pro is not coming, CEO confirms

Breaking with years of company tradition, the OnePlus CEO has confirmed on social media that there won’t be a large-screen ‘Pro’ variant in the forthcoming OnePlus 8T series.

OnePlus first introduced a Pro variant of its smartphones with last year’s OnePlus 7 Pro. The mobile device is the premium alternative to OnePlus 7. The company followed them up with the release of OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7T Pro later in the year.

This year is different. It looks like we won’t be getting a OnePlus 8T Pro after all.

There will be no OnePlus 8T Pro

Rumors and leaks have already said it. But now it has been officially confirmed.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed the news via a post on his personal Weibo account. According to him, anyone looking for a Pro device can continue to buy the OnePlus 8 Pro released earlier this year. However, Lau added that the Chinese company still has some surprises in store during its One Plus 8T reveal.

“There is no 8T Pro this year,” he wrote. “Users who like Pro-level products can continue to choose OnePlus 8 Pro, the annual machine king. Our plan for it itself is defined in a direction where there is no room for upgrade. 8T # # a plus also a surprise. Worth the wait.”

This year’s smartphone series, which now looks to be a single-phone event, is due to be announced on Oct. 14, 3 PM local time. It is the day after the rumored iPhone 12 reveal and there are already plenty of OnePlus 8T leaks and rumors surrounding it.

Here are your alternatives

If you are one of the million fans of the company, do not worry. Even though OnePlus 8T Pro is not coming, you can have a lot of alternatives in the market.

OnePlus has already confirmed that the upcoming 8T will feature a 120Hz refresh rate display and 65W fast charging. Reports also claim that the new device will have a quad-camera array featuring wide-angle, ultrawide, macro, and portrait sensors.

Aside from the 8T lineup, the OnePlus Nord is coming as well. In fact, the OnePlus Nord Instagram account has just posted the hashtag #ComingSoon. Based on this post, we could soon see the announcement of the rumored sub-$400 OnePlus Nord N10 5G, a follow-up to the original OnePlus Nord.

OnePlus fans have more to look forward to than just the vanilla 8T phone, as there will be some surprises at the launch next month. Reports are the company will unveil new true wireless earphones, a smartwatch, and a new Nord for the US market.
