Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has unveiled the newest features of OxygenOS for its flagship product, the OnePlus 8 series.

OxygenOS is an Android-based operating system (OS) designed for the OnePlus 8 series which OnePlus recently released.

The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are said to be positioned to compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S series and the iPhone from Apple.

The new features for the OxygenOS include software optimizations, enhanced dark mode, and much more, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer said.

OxygenOS will also work on older devices

It is expected that the new OxygenOS features will also be available for older devices such as the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T. OnePlus said it will work on even older devices in the OnePlus series.

In the coming days, OnePlus is expected to announce the specific devices which will get the new features and updates.

Here is everything you need to know about what’s coming to your devices if you are an OxygenOS user.

New dark theme

OnePlus is releasing a new and improved dark theme for all OxygenOS users. The company hasn’t revealed the specific changes that come with the theme.

However, there are rumors that it will include better support when using third-party apps.

The dark theme or “Dark Mode” is widely used by mobile phone manufacturers. It is popular because in dark mode, battery consumption is significantly lower. It also causes less stress on the user’s eyes.

Smooth and seamless operation

According to its website, OnePlus also included 280 software optimizations with the new OxygenOS, to allow the OS to run extra fast and smooth.

However, the company did not provide specific details on what these improvements are except to say that it all adds up to “the ultimate smartphone experience.”

These new features will most likely included enhanced its scrolling and animation, which makes a phone feel smoother and faster to the touch.

Live captions

The new OS will also come with Live Caption Support in the new OnePlus 8 model series. OnePlus has worked closely with Google in order to enable the phones to provide audio and video captions in real-time.

Live and dynamic wallpapers

OnePlus also announced that the new OxygenOS wallpaper will be able to change depending on the weather. The company said  these “Live Wallpapers” can work with the OnePlus Weather application and will change colors based on real-time weather updates.

Aside from the new features of OxygenOS, the company also announced the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z headphones.
