Avalanche has dug deep within its inner Potterhead to stay true to the Wizarding World franchise with Hogwarts Legacy.
According to The Verge, the reveal of Hogwarts Legacy was a confirmation on the 2018 video leak of a then-alleged open-world Harry Potter game. Except in 2018, the rumor spoke of a 19th-century setting, but the correct era is in the 1800s.
With that said, this timeline is before Harry Potter and the gang was even born yet. So, unfortunately, players won’t get the chance to be best buds with either Harry or Ron. On the bright side, players will get to live a virtual life in Hogwarts—create a historical and magical story of their own with other real players.
This is the game that’ll make all players’ fantasy of receiving that acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.
True to the Harry Potter franchise
The background music of the trailer already gives players the impression of Avalanche’s ingenuity and being a true fan of the franchise.
The grand hall might have given the viewers a bit of nostalgia. It takes us to the first movie or book, where Harry, Ron, and Hermione were all sorted to the House of Gryffindor. Although the changing stairs are not entirely the same as the movie, the mere sight of it changing brings fans back to the time when the three wizards met the three-headed dog, Fluffy.
In a press release, Portkey Games said:
“The game, which invites you to ‘Live the Unwritten’, is set in the 1800s, where players will live the life of a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry – a lifetime goal for many a Harry Potter fan! Expect Hogwarts Legacy to be filled with all kinds of immersive magic, while your student-character will learn spells, brew potions, tame fantastic beasts, select companions to help them fight off deadly enemies.”
All the other locations known in the franchise will retain its characters, like the Forbidden Forest or the Hogsmeade village.
What we know so far
Hogwarts Legacy, according to Warner Bros., is an “immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books.”
In the game, players can “explore and discover fantastic beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents, and become the wizard you want to be.”
The game will be coming in 2021 for PlayStation 5 and 4, PS4 Pro, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One consoles, and PC.
