The notched display design of the OPPO Reno3 A may take you back years from now, but it is still adorned with some of the most in-demand features in the segment in 2020.
OPPO has quietly unveiled the Reno3 A, a new entry in the now-expanding Reno3 series from the noted smartphone manufacturer. Initially expected to be launched in the Indian market, OPPO surprised its fans by first announcing it in Japan.
A phone from the past and the future
The OPPO Reno3 A, from the get-go, exudes nostalgic design aspirations, evidenced by the notch on its display, and a familiar camera module on its rear. But more on those later.
The OPPO Reno3 A is built around a 6.44-inch AMOLED screen with a teardrop notch and a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels. The Chinese phone maker claims that the phone comes with a 20:9 aspect ratio and an 89.9% screen-to-body ratio. Additionally, the device’s screen supports DC dimming and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.
The Reno3 A features a quadruple-camera setup on its rear. The system comes with a 48MP primary shooter with an f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP ultrawide angle f/2.2 lens, a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor, and a 2MP f/2.4 macro unit. The setup also boasts an LED flash and supports electronic image stabilization (EIS).
Meanwhile, the phone houses a 16MP front-facing snapper in its notch.
Solid mid-range internals
The OPPO Reno3 A’s hardware department is headed by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 chipset, an octa-core processor that is based on an 11nm architecture. The phone also has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The device also draws its power from a 4,025mAh battery capacity, with support for fast charging.
The OPPO Reno3 A’s front panel is also home to an in-display fingerprint scanner. Other key features of the phone include a dedicated microSD card slot, dual SIM slot, 4G VoLTE, NFC, USB Type-C, Bluetooth 5.0, and 3.5mm headphone jack. Finally, the phone is also IP68-rated for dustproof and water resistance.
The device ships with ColorOS 7.1 based on Android 10.0 out of the box
Pricing and availability
The OPPO Reno3 A is priced at JPY 39,800 for its only 6GB/128G variant. The handset is set to go on sale from June 25 in online and offline stores and should launch in gradient Black and White color editions in the market.
OPPO is yet to reveal whether the Reno3 A will arrive in other markets.
