‘Outlast Trials’ update: Everything we know so far

After the long wait, a new entry will be introduced in the popular survival horror series Outlast. The next game will be Outlast Trials, and it’s unlike any other game in the franchise for many reasons.

The Outlast franchise is known for its deep survival horror elements, which puts players in a state of pure vulnerability against enemies. It’s dubbed as one of the scariest franchises ever, so horror fans are very excited to see what Outlast Trials will bring to the table.

Here’s everything we know about the game so far.

Release date and platform

According to the trailer showcased at the PC Game Show, the game will launch in 2021. That being said, it’s almost guaranteed that the game will be available for the Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC.

The first game and its DLC took players to a mental asylum and had them checked by deranged enemies. The second game dropped players in a village run by a cult. Both settings were scary in their own rights, but the upcoming sequel is going to have an even scarier setting.

According to the developers, the game will be set during the Cold-War era. Players of Outlast Trials will be subjects in an experiment featuring mind control and other atrocious acts. From the trailer itself, it seems like most of the game will be played in a hospital.

The Outlast series is known for its intense survival horror elements. In the first games, players don’t have any weapons to defend themselves with. What they do have is a trusty camera that has night vision. The camera’s batteries have to be changed every once in a while.

Players can expect these mechanics, as well as the game’s hide-and-seek heavy gameplay in the upcoming game. Of course, there will be some new elements as well.

What’s different in the upcoming game is that there will be a focus on co-op multiplayer. We’ve yet to know more about it, but from the look of things, players will have to work with one another to escape the facility they are being held at. This at least lowers the fear factor in the game.

Outlast Trials looks like the scariest game of 2021 so far along with Resident Evil 8We’ll most likely hear more about the game in the coming months, and we could be getting some gameplay footage soon.
