Overwatch is one of Blizzard’s most successful titles to date, and that’s saying a lot considering it’s a new IP. Its success has led to the creation of Overwatch 2, and fans are more than excited for the sequel.
Not much has been said about Overwatch 2 yet, but Blizzard has been generous enough to provide fans with bits of information to get them through until the game releases. Here’s everything we know so far.
Release date
The game was revealed via an amazing cinematic trailer last year during Blizzcon 2019. Since then, the developer has been mum about the game’s release, but what they do note is that they are already deep in the development of it. As Blizzcon is going to continue this year, fans might finally see a release date by then.
New game modes
So far, there are only two new game modes revealed for the game. One is a player versus enemy experience similar to the game modes that come with Overwatch’s Archives event. This mode takes players on a journey across the globe in familiar maps. It will move the game’s story forward, and it even allows players to customize the skill of the hero they are using.
The other new game mode is a player vs. player mode called Push. In it, two teams will have to escort a robot to get to the opposing team side. The game is won when the robot is completely at the goal of one of the teams. In case the time runs out, the team in which the robot is closest to is the loser.
New characters
The heroes of Overwatch are its biggest draw. For Overwatch 2, the 32 strong roster will expand with more heroes released post-launch. For now, only one hero is confirmed to be coming, and that’s Sojourn who works with Overwatch.
What happens to ‘Overwatch?’
To this date, fans are still confused about what will happen to Overwatch once the sequel comes out.
According to Blizzard, those who have Overwatch will still have access to new content coming to the sequel. They’ll also be able to play with those playing on the sequel as well. If players buy the upcoming title, they will have access to the upcoming title’s story mode.
Simply put, the original Overwatch will still be prominent even after the launch of the sequel.
Fans are very excited to get their hands on Overwatch 2. All they can hope for now is that the game gets more details soon and that the game should launch sometime this year.
